Transmission grinds? + ecu + burning smell questions
alright i'm new to the world of manual transmissions..so bear with me. I've always heard the term 'grind' when a tranny is being sold, 'no grinds in any gear' etc. I'm not really sure what this means though. When putting my car into reverse you almost always hear a grinding of metal. So i'm guessing this is a grind. It doesnt do it when you ease it into it. Since I've had the car its happened. Sometimes when shifting into second (this is recent) it'll grind as well. So my big question is..what exactly is grinding, whats this effect? Its an 89 hb si. original trans 156,xxx
i bought the car with a sohc zc...before i bought it, i've really had no knowledge of honda's..been a domestic guy, i guess. So I've been doing all my research and learning about ecu's. I understand its good to get the teg ecu or if you can the zc ecu which i think is best from what i've read. Last night I was topping out my car (no cars @ 3:00 a.m. I-80) and it stopped somewhere's between 110- 115. I've read that the zc ecu stops at 112. Could it be that I have that? What are the top speeds of the others ecu's (stock si, teg)
while i'm talking about speed..i noticed last night when going above 75 i smelled burning rubber. the best description i can give is like when you lay track. I just had my timing belt and alternator belt replaced. Any ideas??
thanks mike
