Q: about test tipes and stock mufflers-
For about 6 months or so I have been using the JDM 4-1, SMSP test pipe and SMSP bottleneck adapter with the stock muffler.
(For those who care about Trees- beat it)
Here is the question (s) Is there anyone else that is using a similar setup?
And does your stock muffler turn silver, as in the black paint burning off the visible part if standing in the rear of your caR?
I have Tried a few kinds of paint but after a 30 min hard drive I'm able to burn the paint right off again:O
Is the reason why the paint is burning off due to the better flowing exhaust and that's letting the hotter air get in the muffler?
And other then using a cat is there a way to keep the muffler black?, It looks like chit with an burnt up muffler

when we paint exhaust componets we scuff them up real good with a rough(the burgandy pad) scotch brite pad and paint them with the BBQ grill paint since its heat resistant to 1500 degrees, i doubt your muffler will get that hot. if you been painting it your gonna probably have to get all that old paint off to get the new stuff to stick good. plus i would think that without a cat it would ba a hotter exhaust since its not heating the core of the cat.

Yeah, the cat actually HEATS that chit, so it's probably unrelated.
C + 02 = heat.

Your stock muffler with all of the high flow components is acting like a cork figuratively. All the exhaust is ready to leave but it has just hit a wall (stock muff)
I could easily see how the testpipe is allowing more hot exhaust to burn the paint off.
I ran a testpipe on my civic for a year and the RSR exhaust turned gold
(from polished).

I have a similar setup. JDM 4-1, resonated 2.5" test-pipe, B-pipe bottleneck removed. The muffler is all rusty now, but I don't care about the color. This setup is quiet and performs well.
A full 2.5" setup will only gain 3 hp or so.

Hrmmm....
I have tried prepping and painting it right, but with not much luck. the edges stay black or sort of, its the center section that looks like it got hit by a torch from the other side.
I'll try one more time painting it but will give up after this.
thanks for the tips/ help.
