They sell Pennzoil syncho mesh which is just as good as the gm fluid.

Actually Honda does not consider it the same stuff, neither do dealerships. If you look on all data there is warning about using regular engine oil in new transmissions, it says if you do use regular engine oil that it should only be used for a short period of time or else you can cause damage to the trans.

just a little update...we dropped the tranny and realized that the flywheel bolts were totally stripped out...as was the crankshaft bolt holes
....i am sooooooo screwed....turns out the previous owner forgot to torque down the bolts when he put a new flywheel on....now i have to buy a new b16 cuz i dont have time to rip it down and put a new crank........what a waste of a perfect engine

Read the back of the Honda MTF bottle. It says something to the effect "caution: Motor oil, if it has continuous contact with skin, is hazardous to health"...

So what, just because they call it motor oil in the warning lable does not means its motor oil, its just a general warning lable. I'm not saying don't use regular 10w 30 in your trans, I'm just telling you what the manuals say.

Last time I checked the helm manual for my tranny it said to use 10w30 motor oil. I still use honda mtf but I think 10w30 would be fine.

Yep but go to a honda dealer and ask them if you can look at all there manuals. Go to a GM dealer and ask them if you can see there manuals ( yes Honda is still in there computer manuals ) . It warns you that if you put 10w 30 in manual transmissions that in the long run it will cause damage. There is also a tsb on this problem and if you bought a new car with this problem and Honda wants to keep you a happy customer, they fix this problem for free sometimes.
