Default Screeching noise?

When my car is running and just sitting still it makes this screeching noise. it gets quieter, so i can barely hear it, when i push in the clutch or begin driving. i was thinking it may be my timing belt since im around 90k miles and its due to be changed. any help is appreciated.

Its coming from the engine bay but i really havent checked out where. i just assumed it was the timing belt. the brakes should be fine, i just changed all the pads a few months ago and they seem fine. I guess ill just open the hood and listen where the sound is coming from

Sitting still, it wouldn't be your brakes. There is no pressure applied or friction there to make them screech. If your timing belt slipped enough to make a screech it would also be followed by some nasty metal on metal sounds, then your **** would die a horrible death. I would check your belts and look to see how the tension is on them, or if they appear to be worn or cracked...replace them. To check the tension, you either need a tool (belt tension checker) and a manual (has specs on proper belt tension)...or you can be ghetto and grab it (with the ******* car off of course) and move it up and down. If it deflects significantly, then your belt is loose. It could also be a bearing in your alternator. I believe it's plastic...it's been a while since I have pulled one apart. If that's the case...buy a rebuilt or get one off of here. Either way you shouldn't be out of pocket too much (if your good with a wrench).
