running lean with greddy kit?
Whats up everybody. Ive had my greddy turbo kit on my 98 gsr now for about 300 miles. At about 250 it threw a code for P0171, system running to lean. I have checked everything over and over and cant find out why. Im using the shitty blue box for now until i can get a better management system, but i cant figure out why its running lean. The blue box is suppost to make it run alittle rich i thought. I pulled everything back out about three days ago and found that one of my wires that is hooked up to the blue box wasnt sodered so i spliced it and sodered it and the check engine light went out (not sure if it resets after you unplug the ecu), but drove it to work and as soon as i got home and was letting it idle the light came back on? Ive been going crazy tring to figure out what is wrong. The first and second time it came on i was parked idling. Could it maybe be my fuel pump, i orderd a walbro255 that will be in Monday and new fuel filter. Anyone else know what else i can do???
Are you still running the 310cc injectors that came with the kit? You should not be running lean with the Blue Box. My wideband drops off the scale (rich) when it goes into boost.
yea im running the rc 310 and everything. Ive double checked everything and im stumped and frustrated. The only thing else i can think of is my fuel pump??
yea im ordered a walbro255 a week ago and im gonna pick up a new fuel filter and see if that helps. Its just felt weird before the light came on like it would spool up at like 4k and start to pull but just feel like there was nothing there after that. Like it was struggling or something??

Just a note: You threw a "lean" code on a NA ecu? If that is true...you are running dangerously lean for a turbo engine. You might want to park it until you get your fuel upgrades in. Also, consider putting in something to reading true A/F ratio.
yea i didnt throw the lean code till i put the kit in. I checked everything and it is hooked up right. What are some ways i can check if there are any that it might be my fuel pump or filter? I reset the code after the first time it came on cause i hooked up on of the wires with soder instaed of a connector, but i put almost 100 miles on it before this light came back on again. It didnt throw the code right after i started to drive it but awhile later and both times the "to lean" code came on i was sitting parked just idling? anymore suggestions??
wow im having the same EXACT problem right now. Its throwing the same code. Im just equally frustrated as well. ANYONE know what it can be? I took it to the shop and the mechanic said its just the o2 sensor gone bad w/o even asking questions or looking much into the car.
Sometimes the exhaust manifold glows red even during normal driving. So yeh... Please some1 help.

hmmm, I throw code P0172 (rich) maybe you should look into getting a wideband o2 to see if your really running lean or if you have a faulty o2 sensor. all the solder connections @ the injectors are good?
yah looks a lil on the lean side, too clean for a turbo honda/acura. Should be a lil darker on the finger over the electrode, to little build up. maybe try an adjustable FPR and turn up the pressure a bit see if the light goes out. then you will know if its a fuel delivery problem but it sounds like the blue box isnt doing its job, recheck your wiring. I thought the greddy kit was "foolproof" guess not. you could also switch to hondata and call it a day.
yes hondata once cash flow comes in again
. I will look into the wiring again and possibly get a fpr and a new fuel pump. But 1st the first the wiring since its free...
any more opinions guys?
thanks!

thanks for the suggestions guys, but im just trying to fix the problem w/o the aftermarket stuff. Im sorta limited on cash and so far bad O2 sensor was what alot of of people suggested.
i had my kit on for about three weeks and the same thing was happening to me. the blue box was so rich that it ruined the 02 sensor. so if it is a old sensor already that could be the problem.

there is such a thing as running too rich. you will wash your cylinders out. if your wideband reads rich under boost, that is not good.

so are you saying even though the system is running rich it can damage the O2 sensor and make it malfunction...therefore making it throw a lean code?

this has happened to a couple of greddy kits i've installed. The greddy blue box is designed to run at almost perfect a/f levels to meet carb cert. The engine at times runs lean enough to trigger codes. a fuel pump should help and/or fuel pressure riser.
Check engine light is STILLl on- P0171- system running lean
Recently changed the o2 sensor before the cat and also replaced the fuel filter.
Retard timing by 2deg
About to solder the injector wires, hopefully thats the problem
Heres what the plugs look like now...
