Default stripping valve cover a bad idea?

i have a B16a and its valve cover has been painted red and looks really shitty. i was talking to my buddy at honda, hes an eg fanatic, and said if i strip it down to just the aluminum it might crack. if a rock somehow makes it through my front bumper and hits it it will crack possibly. he said its a protectice porceleon and rubber covering for protection...any thoughts on this? any pictures of a bare aluminum valve covers? any suggestions on how to remove it; tips rather? (i know to paint on aircraft stripper and let it sit, and then just wash it off?) thanks guys

I am doing mine and see no problems with it. Strip it with air craft remover then clean it off with laquer thinner before u paint and u should be ok. Just dont get the aircraft remover on you hands unless you want second degree chemical burns. I can vouch for being an idiot.

The chances of a rock hitting and cracking the valve cover is slim to none. First of all, the valve cover sits higher than the bumper openings and obviously is horizontal. Without the coating, the valve cover dissipates more heat faster.

I know from experience that it does not hurt the valve cover when you strip it .

It's paint...it's not going to stop a rock from damaging something. You'll be fine.

That stuff does nothing to my hands but when it hits my arm or leg I feel it.

you have some leather hands then or you dont have it on you hands long enough. I did not notice it burnt my hand until the next day of working with it for like 2-3 hours with no gloves.

You'll be fine with a stripped valve cover.

I am pretty sure that the d16y8 valve cover came unpainted.......I can't see it being a problem at all....

My hands rock
For some reason I can touch really hot stuff and harsh chemicals?
Maybe its from all the years of skating(falling on hands) wrenching and general labor.

How in the hell is a rock going to make your valve cover crack if a rock should some how make its way to the top of your engine? Is the OEM finish going to prevent that from happening? Can't think of ever hearing of a rock coming through the bumper or even when running without the hood on, coming up and cracking the valve cover.

Who ever told you that your valve cover will crack if you strip the paint then you need to run away from this persons opinions.

That is the most silliest thing I had ever heard.

Just go ahead with the paint removal, you will be fine.
