Pep Boys Auto Repair Quality
I can tell you both sides of the coin:
They have done CV axles and a radiator on my wife's Accord, and that has gone well. They even did well honoring the warranty when the radiator went bad. This all happened since '00.
-BUT-
In '97, they "repaired" the AC on my old BMW 325e. I was out $500, give or take.
AC worked for ONE DAY, and they refused to do anything about it. The service manager told me "tough ****". His exact words.
Went to the store manager and...nothing.
Contacted their home office and... nothing.
So I guess my advice would be- use extreme caution when dealing with Manny, Moe and Jack. As far as I am concerned, they STILL owe me $500. We had repairs done on my wife's car because we were traveling and Pep Boys was handy. Given a CHOICE, I'll never darken their f'king doorstep again. Ever.
Will use them if I HAVE to, though.

all depends on what you need to be done.

In my experience they are a 3rd rate outfit. We had tires balanced and rotated, by chance just before they were remounting them they discovered a bubble on the inside of one of them. Quite a few of the staff seem to have an attitude, like the customer is a bit of a bother. Wonder where they think their pay comes from?? More recently I bought a set of steel wheels from them, turned out they are universal vs. specific. Big hassle which has not been sorted out, I will probably write the store with cc to regional because one of the punks at the store has no interest in solving problem. I will never use any Pimp Boyz again.

Thanks, guys.
I will be very cautious with them. I got the rude service from them when I was 17 and had my first car. Asked about wheel locks. Guy told me to look by myself and screw off.
I got even ruder treatment at Sears Auto Center back in 1987. They damaged my car and then lied about it.
I just loved it when they got hit with the major class action lawsuit out here in California. My friend who worked there at the counter (at another Sears) told me guys were calling in with threats all this became public.
Not to mention that retarded specialist who screwed up my Accord. And, another guy who maintained my car for 2 months, missed that I needed new CV boots, I ended up having to purchase two new axles.
Auto repair sucks. That's why people who can afford buy the Europeans where you don't have to spend anything on repair for the first 50K miles.
When I was younger, I had lots of time to spend on my car. Now with job, wife and family, I just don't have the time that I used to.
