Default Homer goes to the drag strip (drag strip /= track)

Was suppose to get dyno tuned today. didn't happen. So, these results are rather faulty.

Basic mods that mean something to the ET:
- GSR engine
- J1 gearbox
- chipped p28 (VTEC at 4500rpm; redline at 9500rpm)
- DC header 4-2-1
- crap intake tube
- skunk2 IM
- B&M FPR @ 47psi WOT
- 1/16" toe-out (front wheels)
- 16x7 w/ 205/45-16 crap tyres (es100 on one side, Kumho 712s on the other)
- NO TACHOMETER

1st run:
60' - 2.584
1/8 - 10.134
1/4 - 15.372
MPH - 552.59 (obviously wrong, but entertaining!)
Notes: launched too hard and when i got into 2nd, it just spun like crazy.

2nd run:
60' - 2.402
1/8 - 9.775
1/4 - 14.946
MPH - 94.61
Notes: adjusted timing w/o timing gun. seemed to work

3rd run:
60' - 2.418
1/8 - 9.700
1/4 - 14.839
MPH - 95.08
Notes: adjusted timing again, maybe a degree.

4th run:
60' - 2.466
1/8 - 9.677
1/4 - 14.815
mph - 95.51
Notes: launched like i was leaving a stop light.

BEST RUN W/ B16A (for comparison sake):
60; - 2.299
1/8 - 9.350
1/4 - 14.455
MPH - 95.06

Each run with the GSR, I revved first to around 8200-8300rpms...based on the SFC VTEC controller (which had a RPM readout, but it's digital and not the most accurate). All other gears, i took to 8500rpms. I ended each run in 4th...
Also, launched at around 2300-2500rpms. the tyres just sucked so hard it was difficult to get a good launch, not to mention my alignment sucks for drag racing.

So, I anticipate a low 14 with tuning and better tyres. my MPH is on par with my best MPH with the B16...and that's untuned! Tonite was the last night before the ***** Challenge to put up some times to figure out where i stand.

4500 is too low for a dohc vtec.. bump it to 5500.. dyno proven!

yeah i think vtec may be hurting you that low, a gsr in a crx would run high 13s i thought..

Depends on where that particular motor makes it tq/hp, every motor is different, and w/out dyno time, there's no way to get an accurate setting.

I completely agree. but that the case w/ aftermarket pistons/cams etc.. he's got a stock block bottom to top then bolt ons (and a skunk2 im).

"chipped" ecu w/ mugen prog etc are poop if u ask me. I'd rather get uberdata and tune it yo MY specs.. ?

if u dont have access to a dyno i would atleast put the vtec crossover a few hundred rpm BELOW your shift points. so u stay in vtec but barely.

for drag racing, you're probably right. I had the ecu chipped by LDL and we kinda agreed that the switchover was good for what I'll be doing with the car (mid-high rpms).

but, the dyno tune should help immensely.

had an autocross event yesterday (Sunday 9/12/04)...

there was a sweeper right after the start line that required a 1st-2nd gear shift mid way. at first, the VTEC switchover was set at 5600rpms. when you came out of the sweeper, you would travel a good way before VTEC kicked in. Using a lower gear was out of the question.

adjusted VTEC down to 5000rpms, produced lower lap times as well as higher speeds entering the next turn.

adjusted VTEC down to 4400rpms and produced Fastest Time of Day lap times, as well as VTEC being engaged when exiting the sweeper.

Granted, this is not the BEST testing method, but, in a real world racing situation, a lower VTEC switchover point produced faster Lap Times.
