Default Painting My Wheels...

Im going to paint my wheels black this weekend. What all do I need to do for preparation? Do I have to sand or can I just pressure wash them? Any help would be great.

when i painted mine ( i was messing around) i sanded then cleaned off with brake cleaner. The paint looks good for being out of a can and costing like $20 for all 3.5 rims ( i got bored) so..it should work out.

If they look like they have a clear coat on them, you can just wetsand them down with 500 grit or so then paint with any color wheel paint. If you really wanna get them perfect looking, use an auto paint strip like 'Aircraft remover' or 'Paint Off' to get the rims to the bare metal. Then primer, then paint. I believe that would get the best results. - Darrell

i've got a set of aluminium wheels at the powdercoat shop now, and it's only costing me $50 to have all four stripped and powdercoated black. o/c, i'm getting a good deal because i could leave them for as long as they wanted to take (been 3 weeks, should be getting them back next week), but $20 seems like a lot for a home rattlecan job...
