Y1 and J1 transmissions....
Yes, I searched and couldn't find what i was looking for. I understand that the Y1 cable trans, has a 4.26 FD and the J1 trans has a 4.40 FD.. (correct me if im wrong
).. Does the Y1 trans have shorter gears than the other? Also, can i put the J1 FD (4.40) into the Y1 trans? The reason why im asking, is because my J1 trans, is messed up, and I have this Y1 as a spare... thanks

The J1 should have the small shaft so you will need a small shaft tranny to replace any internals. Do you know what year the Y1 is?. I think the 89-90 were small shaft and the 91-92 were big shaft.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong. It's been a while since I've dealt with trannys.

The J1 transmission will make the engine rev higher at the same speed than a Y1 transmission would. If what you want is a good drag racing tranny then the J1 would be the one to get. If you want a few less RPM while cruising then the Y1 would be the one to get.
thank you all for the quick responses. Yes, Mr. Spaceballs (blah
) im trying to find a good drag racing transmission, the reason i asked, was because i messed up my J1 trans, and i have a spare Y1 here, now, are the gears and FD interchangeable? Im sorry for all the ?'s... It sucks to be a girl racer who don't know anything about a dam trans... lol.....

It depends on the year of both trannys...

I've *heard* the final drive in the Y1 can not be changed out, unless u change the entire diff. The FD is welded to the diff or sum ****. Y1 and J1 both should have the small shafts, as they both require the use of the 90-91 integra clutch disc, not 92-93 (which is the bigger shaft).
Thats correct, you can interchange gears between these trans.
But IMO, i would definatly use the y1 as is, untouched. First gear in the j1 is so 'low' its rediculous. Its practically useless if your making any power at all. The y1 actually has a minutely closer gear ratio than the j1, but 1st gear starts 'higher' because of the final drive. Y1 without a doubt IMO

Yeah but the S1 is out of the question. All she has in the broken J1 transmission and Y1 Transmission. I think I would go with the J1 transmission (Shorter gearings) for racing since that's what your using it for.

yeah id sitck with a J1 over a Y1. But dont ALL the Y1s have LSD? I have seen about 10 that do have LSD so im making an assumption. I was told that the diffs wouldnt match in my swap, but the trans runs fine, and ive had no issues out of it for 4000k miles.
so casing is cracked i assume? and the forks that slide the gears into place etc?
I was gonna suggest a hybrid tranny in a different casing, but I don't know if the two are the same size or not. Interesting, how'd it happen, may I ask?

Same choice here...ahah. To answer someone elses question, not ALL Y1's come with LSD.

Y1 = JDM CRX Sir 89-91
J1 = JDM Teg XSi/RSi 90-93
search google for gearspeed and call them. Saw a big write up in Honda tuning on this exact topic. apparently the guys at gearspeed are the pro's.

Can't you use the FD from the J1 and put it in the Y1?... Would that make a difference also... and make the Y1 gears act like a J1? There both the small shafts anyways.. right guys? im lost
