safe boost for a sohc vtec?
I have a jdm single vtec swapped into my car and am doing a turbo this week, what is the most boost i can run without having to worry about doing engine damage, im pretty sure the greddy kit comes set to 7 psi. but i have heard other things from people. I WANT IT TO STILL BE RELIABLE!
7 psi I would say is pretty safe for what you want. If you go with uberdata / hondata etc.. I believe ~10 psi should be pretty safe with a properly tuned, intercooled stock motor. just my opinion, look at homemadeturbo.com, turbod16.com, blah blah..good luck
I thought the Greddy kit was set at 5psi? But anyways, it's how much horsepower your stock motor can handle.. not how many pounds of boost it can handle. From the many different setups I've seen, it seems like a lot of stock D-series motors are good to about 200whp. And since the Greddy kit has a small turbo, you should be able to boost 7lbs. pretty safely if you set yourself up with a good dyno tune.
Yeah you can reliably squeeze around ~200 whp out of a D series without sacrificing reliability too much. Both my friend and I personally (along with a million on HMT) are running around with ~200 and have been for a long time. My friend and I both boost about .7bar (10.5lbs or so) and have been for about 25k each, d15b7 in his hatch w/ greddy, d16z6 in my coupe w/ custom kit.
