Default problem with restarting 97

for example, if I go to gas station. I turn my car off, and when I return a few minutes later, it will start and immediately die. I wait about a minute or two and then it will start as if nothing happened. If anyone has any idea what could cause this please let me know! Its kind of annoying! By the way, this is a base model 97 prelude. Thanks!

do you leave the key in the on position? like where it would be if the car is running?

Could be a faulty ignition switch, common problem and there has been a recall by Honda on this, if you contact the dealer they will fit a new upgraded switch for free.

may need a new ignition switch. There was a recall on them, so you should just take it in have the dealership put a new one in for you

Yes, the key is still in the "on" position. I did find a post card in the glove box about that ignition recall. I dont know if previous owner had the work done, though. Does that sound like something the faulty ignition would cause?

It only happens when I have been driving, though. It always starts on first try, as long as it has been longer than a few minutes after i turn car off.

if it wasnt, then why would several people tell you it could be, its a recall, u should go get it replaced anyways before its too late otherwise that could be another problem, once its done, if it still happens, then work on it...listen to people here...

I am listening to people here, Im just asking if there is any thing else it can be. Per above, it can be a main relay OR the ignition recall. I was just asking if that was a comon reason to die after it started up fine.

In answer to above yes there are other things it could be, but if you get the switch done free at least you can rule that out and look at the other causes after, it's a process of elimination I'm afraid, and yes a faulty switch with dodgy contacts inside causes the car to die at anytime after start, when hot/cold and hopefully not while overtaking.
