brake fuse, 3rd brake light wire problem...pic
Okay my car is a 94LS Sedan. When I bought it, the 3rd brake light (the one inside behind the window) was removed and I have the wire hanging down from it. It looked to have been simply cut from the brake light. I never had a problem with my brakes until recently.
Here's what has happeened I moved and I put a bunch of stuff in my trunk and as it turns out that brake wire from the light was hanging out and wasn't covered so the wire was loose and it melted to my computer case. Bad.
Blew the fuse of course so I replaced it with a 30 instead of the 20 and taped up the wire.
It held up until recently when I checked the fuse again and it was exploded. I looked in the trunk for the wire and it melted away all the tape. There are two wires inside the tape. Are they supposed to be touching? All the tape around them are melted away leaving two wires that are touching. I can't see if they are supposed to be separated further down as I said they've melted away the tape down the line.. I disconnected the wire leading to the trunk dome light hoping that might be a bad ground for the brake wire. Nope, replaced the fuse with a 20 and it blew right as I tried to put it in.
Is there a way to properly disconnect the third brake light? Maybe find the color of the wires that aren't fused together and cut and seal them properly?
Any help would be great.

Pull those 2 wires apart from each other & tape each of them so they can't touch each other or anything else. Better yet, cut one back so the ends aren't even with each other, then tape them.
If you have a multi-meter, set it for a continuity check. With the car turned off, probe those 2 wire ends. If there's any continuity between them, you have to open up the harness some more becase they're melted together SOMEWHERE.
And put in a 20 amp fuse like it's supposed to have... That might have prevented it from melting back as far as it did??

yeah I thought about it and I went out and fixed it. You were correct, it was melted back quite far thanks to that stupid 30 fuse. I cut and cut the wire until I found they weren't melted together and taped them apart. I think I'm good for now, thanks!!
