Need help finding a good Alarm
I just got my 2000 Civic SI about a week ago and im going off to college in like 2 weeks and im paranoid about my car getting jacked so I want a good alarm system with the remote pager. What kind of alarm systems do you reccomend? I don't have a price range in mind so any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks.
I currently have a compustar SS and think its pretty damn good. Of course I use this alarm in conjunction with a autolock and soon to be club (feeble efforts, but hey it could help). The rated range of this alarm is rated at like 6000 ft. Of course its probably not that much considering when buildings and stuff get in the way but thats still plenty of range for me and sometimes I park about a block away from my house and I can still autostart it. The autostart is good too because it doesn't bypass the clutch so when you start your car you still have to step on the clutch.

My advise is to get a cheapo AUDIOVOX type alarm off of ebay. They go for about 80 bucks brand new with remote start, pager remote, FM freq, turbo timer, warranty, etc. Almost all alarm's utilize the same brain nowaday's they just have different names. Don't buy an alarm just cause it says VIPER on it.

Depends on your area. I got mine installed for $535 thats including tax, would of 500 flat if there was no tax. I've heard people in Canada got it installed for like 300 CND which is ******* cheap. But the place I got it installed at offered competitive pricing. I called other places about the SS they told me around 700.

Got it off ebay for like 280 USD plus a few more sensors that in total comes out to like 350 or something...more-less. Self-install = 0 dollars
...well, except some extra wire, diodes I had to buy

This is all you need. I've been installing alarms for over 2 years and I like these types because of the ease of installation and the overall quality. I think this one is called a panther but it's the AUDIOVOX alarm type. There's a million different brands of this same exact alarm combo. Hmmmmm I wonder why?.... Maybe because they work and the design has proven well. Just check it out. It was the first one I came across on ebay I'm positive you can find one cheaper if you actually do a search.

And this one even comes with remote window module awesome deal. I install these on the side all day long for 80 bucks on honda's and acura's. Do it yourself it's really not all that hard. Plus these have smart start so you don't have to hook up a tach wire.
Hofco.
My Hofco I installed in my first car 20 years ago. 20 years ago this Hofco system costed 800 bucks. I moved it to car #2 then car #3. I did replace the brain and the tranmistters once for a cost of 40 bucks.
Installation is everything. Hofco is located in Culver City.
If you really are scared, you can also get your hood rigged to the alarm, backup battery and anti car jack.
The basic Hofco alarm is good enough. About $300. Will last you a good 15 years.
Remember, it's all in the installation.
