Winter CRX
hey guys, I've never driven a CRX in the winter. I know many'd say don't drive it in the winter but I want to know. How does it compare with other makes driving over ice, snow, etc. Any other things to consider?
they are very light so they follow the groves in the snow i really did not like my HF in the snow and with the B16 it was worse and the turbo i did not even dair but i would get snow tires for it and make sure u clean and under coat everything because they rust bad in the winter.

So do they rust more than other makes in the winter? that's waht I don't get ...
If I undercoat and clean it regularly, I guess I can drive it and leave it out outside in the winter. Anybody in the north had any problems with their clean rides?

just don't drive it when u don't have too...
last winter i had just painted my car a month before the snow season. i just threw on my stock wheels and then drove it normally. when it snowed. she stayed in ym driveway.
when the roads where good enough, and i really had to go somehwere aka work/school and i couldn't find a ride i took her out. once i got home i would try and unmelt my hose or get a big bucket or luke warm water and wipe her down. eps. uner the wheel wells.
no rust...yet...knock on wood. i'll prolly do the same this winter unless i can find a garage for her and afford a beater truck or crx.

Dunno about the Rex, but my civic HB is great in the snow, I was out driving around in the snow last year durring a snow emergency, when I shouldnt have been. And its not cause its stock, cause I drove my Teg in snow too. You just need to keep up momentum, and all that horse crap about not spinning the tires is false. Go play in some parking lots in the snow, and learn your car. I love driving in the snow, and love making it places that trucks go.

I live in the chicago and drive my Crx all year round. The back end wants to slide out when you make turns. Thats why i usually have a few bags of sand or kitty litter in the back.

thanx... the 91 Si is actually the heaviest of all CRX, so it might help I guess.
I'm in T.O. now and actually we didn't have much snow last winter. I'll keep my fingers crossed with my all-season tires ...

i drove mine in the snow last year...im in Connecticut... i had some crappy all seasons on and it wasn't too bad. I'll be driving my crx again this winter im not too worried about it.
ya, I drive my HB in the winter, and I would definitly say invest in some snow tires, unless you have all-seasons that are fairly new. Last winter I had old-ish all seasons they were fine 70% of the time but if we had a big snow fall I would have a lot of trouble....this winter I am using winter tires.
Also, for rust proofing, if your car is rust free, or close to rust free now, definitly invest in rust proofing, I have heard good things about Krown, but I imagine they are all similiar.

I drove one of my crx's a few years ago and it worked great! I just picked up another one to use this year. Its all inthe tires. If you live where there is lots of snow get some good winter grips, the handling is night and day! Stay with a stock size or maybe one size skinnier for good traction. Wide tires are no good for snow plus the car is light and does get pulled around between lanes when there are ruts in the road.

It's just like any other car. Just make sure you have good shockes and tires.
I drove my 91 crx si over 5 years in Chicago and it was fine.
One time I got stuck in the middle of the side street cause the car was too low.

i'm from nv and we usually get a good amount of snow in the winter and the thing that you mainly have to watch out for is that you can get stuck real easy especially if your lowered because you front bumper act as a plow and you drag snow. they follow the track a lot but as long as you dont do anything stupid its real easy to control
well, it's a good inspiring info so far...
Mine is not lowered and the tires are new TOYO M+S (I don't know waht it stands for: Mud & Snow, Multiseason or Moisture and ****) Radial with a nice tread ..
One question: how does the snow make it rust more than rain in the summer (my guess would be b/c it gets underneath or stays moist all the time) ...

Snow stays packed in certain ares, ice developes in areas, salt eats the hell out of your car and then combine that with snow/ice and probly due to the fact that people wash cars in the winter alot less then in the summer.
