Won't you have to undo the B series conversion to go back to a "D" series? Make him pay for another B16A...perhaps the 2nd gen 170HP version =]. **** it....ITR engine.

No, a zc is not a crappy engine. But it will be slower than a b16. In terms of putting it in, the vtec wiring will have to go but it's not very hard.

A ZC is a definite step down from a B16A. I personally would just try to find a B16A longblock. This is, after all, all you need. And you could probably find one for little more than a ZC. Maybe even less if it is a bare longblock (no manifolds, distributer, etc.). Also keep in mind that if you go ZC, you will need all the D-series stuff again to make it work. And if you have long since sold your stock transmission, axles, etc., then you will have to buy all this stuff at considerable expense. If this is the case, it is DEFINITELY not cost effective to go ZC.

well since your already packing B series why don't you just keep your mounts, axles, ect and get a B20.

man a b20 with skunk2 IM, h-i-e with b16 tranny would rip apart any stock b16 anyday.

Actually the b20 w/ bolt ons is a pretty powerful setup. My buddy has one in his crx with i/h/e and he and I run neck and neck in the quarter except that I pull away a bit on the top end. Remember the b16a doesn't have alot down low.

Depends a lot on what B20 and why trim level your buddies CRX is also. B20z in an HF w/ bolt on's would probably definitely hold its own against a 4door civic with stock b16a.

It would be cheaper for you to stay B. You already got the mounts and the tranny, if you go back to D you will have to change that stuff out.
The ZC is not a step down its just a different motor. You won't have to rev as high as the b16 but you wont have as much power.

sell whats left of the b series stuff, mounts, axels, linkage, head... whatever and buy the zc. then, with the leftover money turbo it!

just curious how he blew your engine? overrevved it like 10k rpm? blew a hole in the block? you might be able to get away with a small rebuild. blown head? get another one for a few hundred. same for the block. what's holding you from rebuilding?

Speaking of turbo, a B16A has MUCH greater internal fortitude than a ZC. It can take more boost on a stock bottom end (or a built bottom end, for that matter) before it blows up. And don't tell me about compression. Because the difference is not THAT great.

And regardless of what anyone says, a ZC is a step down from a B16A. Remember that a ZC is basically just an LS minus 200cc. And I even consider an LS to be a step down from a B16A.

As far as B16A vs non-VEC B20, they actually are pretty even in the quarter mile. Even on the dyno, the B20 almost puts out as much power. But the real difference is on the street, where the torque of the B20 rules.
