Help with installation of CAI
hey i'm new here and i was wondering how to install a cai on my 93 accord lx. The ones on e-bay have two chrome pipes that look like they attatch to my air filter box. Is that correct? if so would these do me any good? they seem the same diameter of my stock pipes. any help would be appreciated!
ok, first, don't listen to ghetto mechanics who say dropping in an aftermarket flat filter is the same as getting a cai. That's just wrong. Any true honda builder will tell you that a cai outperforms a filter any day.
Second, no, lol, the ebay pipes don't connect to your stock filter box. You have to remove the whole filter box and the throttle body (long black plastic pipe connecting to filter box). So basically, your replacing the long black tube with the ebay piping. But, if your unsure about simple basics like this, do you know of the potential for hydrolock with a cai? You should look into it because that right there could destroy your engine single handedly. I have an injen cai system that also converts to a short ram system so i can convert it when it's raining and avoid hydrolock.

Haha you're kidding me right? Good christ.
1) Air intakes are useless. I wish I just ripped out my resonator and put a K&N in and I would have spent far less, especially now that i'm boosted and it was all a waste anyway.
2) that is NOT your throttle body. That is just piping that goes to the airbox. Your throttle bodies are little metal tubes with discs in them that open and close depending on your throttle position.
I would read the basic guide to accords up above.
If you dont want to just remove your resonator and get a filter, get a crappy cheapest ebay intake possible and put a good K&N cone filter on the front of it

pure pwnage........whishilived....why dont you go check out the appearance forum, and check engine shots...MOST cars have either stock tubing, ebay piping + better filter, or those of us who bought AEM CAI's, and then realized it was a waste of about $100......
you clearly have NO idea what makes a new intake system "better" than stock, or what the difference is between running a CAI vs removal of resonator and a new drop in filter........but i guess a CAI gives you 20whp in your magic day dreaming land of japan

exactly....if you recall removing the resonator, theres about a pea size hole that air can get into....and since thats directly connected to the filter box, and thus to the ITM, removing the resonator is all you really need to do to help improve air flow

whoa there phychos, sorry for the misnomer, air duct not throttle body, my bad. And as far as stock air ducts go, they are pieces of ****. That's why you go with a real cai system. Look in any friggen magazine, any honda building book, they all use real aftermarket cai systems because they work the best. Sure, if your saving up for a damn turbo or an h22a swap or whatever the **** ever, you may want to save some money and just replace the filter and resonator box, but if you want to get the most out of your intake, buy a real ******* aftermarket cai system.
wish i lived in japan so i could get away from you douche bags. anyone who tells you removing the filter and box is the same as a real cai system is full of ****. Show me the ******* dyno numbers to prove it.

First off, you don't think honda-tech.com exists in Japan? Why else do they call it the WORLD WIDE WEB
Secondly, never said they were the same, he was just talking about something completely different from what you were.
So go on champ, keep diggin.

actually, removing the resonator and throwing in a K&N high flow drop in filter WILL net you the pretty much the same gains as a regular old CAI or SRI....all of which will get your around 3whp........i thnk "iwish" is actually knowtommorow back from teh dead
and im glad you rear magazines.....im guess stuff like super street, and sport compact....with their mad tyte jdm wide body fenders......or do you go to japanese markets, pick up Option magazines, and then you and all your redneck friends marvel at the big intercooler on teh R34, and how it has some kewl racing graphics that you cant wait to put on your race car!!@1!!!!1!!!1!!

lol...any intelligent person would realize the difference between a CAI and a stock air intake isn't that much. As most of you said, removal of the resonator and an air filter will pretty much give you equal gains as a CAI. Not to mention the money saved you could use toward other peformance parts. So why waste the money on a CAI?
Hey now, I enjoyed every penny I spent on my 97+ Prelude AEM CAI for my 90 Accord H22 swap. The stock piping from the Accord was way too small and we all know the AEM stickers that come with the intake are what make the real power.
Seriously, you can do just as well with some Ebay crap and a good filter. I just bought AEM because I knew it would fit my "custom true honda builder" setup and I had some cash to blow.
WishILivedinJapan, this is like the third post you have been corrected on. PLEASE stop posting incorrect information.

ok *******, listen to what i have to ******* say, i'm going to repeat it for the last ******* time. SHOW ME THE ******* DYNO NUMBERS!!!! jesus christ, you guys spent more time insulting me than actually backing up what you had to say. You think i'm just going to flat out trust what snow blower ****** post ***** has to say about how he's a 'real hardcore tuner' and doesn't buy things from a real company, and that lol, says that cai, sri, and filter+resonator removal will get you exactly the same thing? Please by all means ban my *** if you can prove this to me with a ******* DYNO CHART!!!! If you fat ***** spend so much ******* time on this ******* site considering your post counts, it should be pretty easy to find a dyno chart to prove this to me. I DON"T WANT TO HEAR ANOTHER ******* WORD ABOUT THIS UNLESS IT'S FOLLOWED BY A ******* DYNO CHART!!!!

Neither do we so please don't bring up old topics. Look at some dyno charts by different intake makers and you'll realize they aren't gaining much power anyway. And it's obvious by the laws of physics that you can gain power by removing restrictions. So the difference between a fake one and a real one can only be as much as the real one adds in the first place which is what, 5 whp. Big deal, you can make that up by pissing before you race.

ok, sure, i admit that the difference between filter+removal resonator and an aftermarket cai may be a minimal 2-3 hp difference. But if you think of it in the scheme of everything else, that doesn't seem as minimal. If you approached your car with this philosophy on everything, that you would just 'ghetto' tune it, then eventually you would be losing out on say maybe 10-15 or maybe even 20 hp. What i like to do is get the absolute best performance in any mod i make becasue 2-3 hp can add up fast.
id show you dyno sheets, but sinces dyno pulls are all that cheap, people arent really willing to dyno a bone stock car w/ removed resonator, and then dyno it with just a CAI

tough luck, you're going to hear a few more.
first off, we're talking about an accord here... with an f22. slapping on an intake is only going to get you so much horsepower. the difference between a CAI and a short ram is negligible.
secondly, you're apparently getting your information from magazines... no doubt magazines such as Super Street, Sport Compact Car, Import Tuner... magazines that are known to print misinformation and use "less than accurate" methods of testing.
"show me dyno numbers, dyno dyno dyno"... again, we're talking about accords. why the hell would someone really want to waste the money just to find out he gained 2whp over stock? get real.
not to burst your bubble, but your car-magazine-education is worthless

SuperStreet Rocks! Man, if it weren't for bodykits the "import scene" would fall apart. Alright, WishILivedInJapan, you are right. We can't prove anything and AEM is the greatest ever and SuperStreet is the greatest ever and Skyline bodykits make your car mAd tITe JDm yO!
The point is you aren't gonna get too much from this or anything else at all anyway unless heavily tune N/A or go turbo at which point all this small stuff becomes useless anyway.
