90 hatch Hood wont opne no matter what
Hello,
I have a 90 hatch thats been stiiting for awhile, went to start it up and the battery was too low to crank it over so I went to pop the hood and it won't open. Had someone push on the hood and even pound on it while I pulled on the release to get it to pop and nothing, any suggestions short od a cutting torch??
Thanks,
Tom

you probably snapped your hood release cable or it slipped out of position. It happened to me when I first got my current car.
Take off your front bumper and reach your hand up and manually pull the latch.

.. then call the US govt and sell them the tool that GOES THRU THE HOOD for like a trillion dollars
btw.. just poking fun
take the splash gaurd off and reach up.

lol, I guess I don't understand what you're poking fun at.
You can't reach the actual latch mechanism by just taking off the splash guard. Even if you could, pulling on the cable doesn't do anything because it's pulling on the outer shield of the cable; not the inner cable which is the one that actually moves the latch.
You've got to take off the bumper to be able to get to the underside of the radiator support where you can manually pull the latch. Not pull on the cable, but the actual latch.
You can do it with the bumper in place but it's a huge PITA and you'll cut your knuckles up all over the place against the a/c condensor.

Well, he said hatch. Most people that say hatch mean Civic.
With that said, you can take off the bumper on a Civic without opening the hood. There's a total of 4 bolts behind the bumper lights, a few 10mm bolts underneath the cover, and then the 2 screws in each fenderwell.
If it's a CRX (again, he did not specify) then I don't know as I've never owned a CRX.

Hey,
Thanks a ton. Yep, take the blinkers out and remove the two bolts on each side and the screws in the wheelwells and the bumper comes right off. Now to remove the dents i made in the hood beating on it in frustration, lol.
