Default Brake Question...no answer found in search

I keep warping rotors on the front of my 89 CRX DX. I know that the EX had bigger brakes but I can't find one in the yards to get the parts from. I read that there is a conversion you can do from an Accord front to the CRX front. I think it came from an 88-89 Accord. Anyone know anything about this upgrade or have any input?

do '91 CRX SI brakes.

you need:
1. caliper bracket
2. caliper
3. rotors
4. good pads
5. fluid

that's all you need.

The brakes were on the car so I have no clue what was on there. Are the 91 SI brakes larger or just thicker rotor or what?

Hmmm, I could have sworn the dx and si brakes were the same on ED/EF's.

I was under the impression that they were as well.

Maybe the 90/91 are an upgrade from 88/89 regardless of the trim.

either way. I really want to get larger brakes on there. I read that you can put 11.2" Accord Front brakes on the CRX/civic. Do you all know anything about that or another conversion?

the '90-'91 SI have a different brake pad design (larger I believe) and the bracket is suppose to be a better design.

the 11" brake setup is the accord/itr calipers with redrilled prelude or Corrado g60 rotors.

and it's overkill. the stock 9.5" rotors are fine. the problem with going to larger rotors is price. Everything costs more.

so can I just go buy a good set of loaded calipers for a 91 si and bolt them straight on to the car?

I'm curious what difference that would make.

Cheap rotors are more likely to warp than high quality or OEM rotors. It's just a quaulity issue.

all rotors are te same thing if you buy them from (napa, pepboys, autozone, salvo..etc) they say they have 3 grades, but they all made of ******* cast iron or what ever, they are not any different.

i go therw brake rotors and pads fast. im thinking of getting something new also. maybe some slotted bremo or soemthing. see ghow they work out

cvcrcer:

have you already replaced the rotors once and then had the new ones warp?

I just bought the car a few months ago so no I havn't replaced them yet. I checked the specs and then turned them, but they warped again. I remember this problem ffrom my HB so i wanted some input on a factory upgrade option. I am an ASE cert brake tech so I know about how to fix them.

Kim it depends on the year of the Accord. I think they went to the larger size with the 90 model year change.

I think that I have this problem also. I have changed rotors 3 times. I replace both front calipers with aftermarket ones. I have an 89 SI. This sucks bigtime.

You may be right, I don't know. However, you listed autozone specifically and that's what made me wonder. I absolutely punish autozone rotors on the track and have never warped one. Maybe I just get lucky, but it saves me a lot of money vs. brembro blanks.
