passing a b16a CA ref. HELP!!
im planning on doing a swap into my 88hf and wanted to know how to go about converting my b16a to pass the smog ref. the only way i figure to pass it is to make it an "obd1 del sol motor". any help will be greatly appreciated.
TIA

the JDM PR3 ECU will make it run a little richer....there isnt really a difference between the 88-91 B16 and the Del Sol B16A3. Main thing for the OBD1 is the single 4 wire O2 and different injectors and Dizzy.

The intake and exhaust manifolds, including throttle body are different as well, and have to be changed in order to pass the REF inspection.

i'm doing it right now...
you need obd1 b16a ecu (this is the del sol b16 ecu known as the p30)
4-wire o2 sensor
obd1 distributor (the 92-93 gsr dizzy fits perfect)
and thats it...everything else is just wiring...if you're not good, you might want to get a jumper harness from obd0-obd1
if you got anymore questions just post em on...i know alot of guys on ht have done this conversion (but not many have been refereed legally)

You need the following:
1. 1994-1995 USDM P30 ECU
2. 1994-1995 USDM Intake manifold assembly (absolutely essential!)
3. 1994-1995 exhaust manifold/downpipe (no provisions for the four wire oxygen sensor on the JDM piece, and two plugged holes will raise red flags)
4. 1994-1995 USDM distributer (also absolutely essential)!

Going to need the obd-1 distributor for sure if he is to run that 4 wire O2 properly as well as the P30 ecu.

I've gotten my b18c powered EF through the referee and have to say that StormingMatt pretty much said the whole thing.
If I was personally facing this, I think I'd contact a couple junk yards and have them on the look-out for a 94/95 del sol with blown up engine. Then buy all the "conversion" parts to make your engine USDM spec.
If you have to buy a new (correct) distributor, look at what Distributor King sells (that's one of the things I had to do). They are complete, new, and reasonably priced. (he is a sponsor of Honda Tech)
