Default Ebay Intake

i wanted to pass this along. i bought the AEM CAI replica on ebay, new. i'm not new to adding performance pieces to my cars.

a little back ground: i use my si as a daily driver and it is used primarily as a highway cruiser. i have owned the car for 14 months now and am pushing 32,000 miles (i bought the car new.). anyways, i'm not hard on my vehcles at all, i'm a 30-something professional. i installed this last november with about 12000 miles on the car. i recently replaced it with another intake, this one a well-known manufacturer. here's what i was suprised to find when i went to remove it this evening...

the mounting bracket broke off, leaving a gaping hole just after the filter.

fortunately no damage has occured, but i know the temptation is strong to buy one these because of the price. these pictures prove you get what you pay for. just a caveat for the rest of the k20 crowd.

Wow, that can't be good. Your right though, you get what you pay for. The Injen Cold air is really nice, i have one on my RSX & my friend has one on his Si, i'd recommend it.

Ya, my bracket didn't line up right, had to whack it with a hammer. Seems fine now though. Speaking of which I'll have the V2 the car came with up for sale soon.

Even though you post this, people will still buy and swear by those pieces of crap.

You get what you pay for, but no one seems to care anymore.

I think it's more that it's worth the risk. Even if you have to buy 3 ebay intakes, it still comes out cheaper than a AEM one. I don't think the difference justifies the high price. Now if it was $25 for ebay crap and $50-75 for a good one, then I'd be more likely to get something good.

I really don't think it's worth the risk OR the aggravation. If you have to go out and buy 3 intakes just cause you want to be cheap is a little ludicrous.

Let's not forget the filters that come with those cheap intakes are equally pieces of ****.

So that means another $40 you gotta spend for a good K&N, or else you risk leting fine particles into your motor.

Again, I don't see the value in the ebay intakes.

In a perfect world, yes. However, some of us haven't planted money tree's in or backyards yet, so it's either take the risk or wait a while.

You have me there, but at least that one k&n is reusable, so if your piping brakes you'll only need to replace that, and you can sell the collection of crappy air filter you've accumulated

It really all comes down money. If you have it, why buy crap? If you don't, weigh the risk of buying crap before you buy.

This is solid proof than one metal pipe can be better than the next...

even if they both add up to virtually nothing hp-wise.

I have broken the brackets off on 2 different AEM intakes, even using the rubber isolator.
