Default CEL Help

ok headgasket's been replaced. I also replaced the Spark Plugs and took off some obx spark plug wires and replaced them with factory wires. I'm still throwing a CEL. the code is a misfire on cyl #1. Which cyl is #1? While the car was running I pulled the wire out of the cyl that is farthest from the dis. cap or on the far right looking at the motor from the front. When I did that I did not hear a lose in power of the motor. What else could it be? The spark plug wire arched when it was near the valve cover. That was the only wire I pulled out. I didn't try this with any of the others

Cylinder #1 is the furthest from the distributor. If you pulled the wire while it was running, and it didnt lose any power, thats the problem cylinder. Did you do compression tests? you said the spark wire arched, check the wire. If you cant find where the exact arch is, get a spray bottle and spray water on the motor when its pitch black. You should see the sparks arching. Check spark plug gap, distributor towers, make sure you have the wires pluged in at the right places on both ends.

Compression test was done b4 gasket was replaced and it showed the gasket was blown between 3 and 4. Didn't do one after the gasket was put in. I don't think

no 1 cyl code is in the distributor. Most people say try using a new distributor. This code popped up on me like 3 days ago. I had misfire on the dyno. I have msd and the tower that was on my cap was loose. I used a new cap and made the tower real tight in there. Reseted my battery and tried pulling the code. I did not have it anymore. I got real lucky, so sometimes it might come and go.

Try a friend distributor on your car first.

Now I'm throwing 71, 72, and 74. I know they're all misfires in cyl 1, 2, and 4. They spark plugs are new I guess now I'm going to look at replacing the wires and dis. cap.

Also my idle is going crazy now. It idles back and forth between 1000 and 1500. I think that could be the IAC Valve. This is getting frustrating

Get a compression test done, and if the compressions are low, do a leakdown test.Best way to diagnose without opening the motor up.
