Default Things to look for when purchasing a used block*Did a search*

I did a search, yielded nothing useful and i need this info ASAP

Its gonna be a used b16 short block. THe guy said its a second generation so im assuming i look for a b16a2 stamp on it. and he said the rings are probably blown since it was smoking last time he had it in the car.

So what should i look for on the block, sleeves, etc. Any tips are helpful. Also can i tell the exact year of the block buy lookin on the block or do i have to run the VIN?? im assuming its probably gonna be a JDM block since its only a second generation b16. All help apprceciated
