Yes, you may lose power from lack of velocity.

He has a point. Unless you have a 2.0 liter motor, I can't see you making significant gains with a 70mm.

Dut to a sufficcient explanation that the throttlebody in question was an unfinished product this post was never itended to spread a "rumor" just to make the buyer proceed with caution.

Since the T body in question was unfinished I wouldn't worry about a finished one and on the plus it is a very nice piece

I saw with my own eyes a screw become loose and fall out of an STR 70 mm throttle body. This occured on my friends 2.45 liter deck plate engine on the dyno.

Guess what no more engine </TD></TR></TABLE>

Ouch! That sux!

Back to the subject at hand, you need to have higher compression and bigger cams before you go with a bigger TB! For your mods I suggest 62mm, 65mm w/ cams and high comp pistons! I honestly think 70mm is too big unles you are running turbo!

a friend has a 70mm str tb on his 1.8 ls/vtec, mmm.. not the best results, i'd like to try my jg/edelbrock 65mm on it and see if it gains with a smaller tb. (65mm is what i'm running on 2.0 ls/vtec with matched intake manifold, thanks endyn! )

We usually sell customers a jg 65mm TB with most all motor builds, which generally yeilds great results. In fact, it is the same TB that we used on our B series shoot out motor.

A representative from STR told me that the TB that was on the 2.4L motor that blew up was an unfinished TB, which might be the reason that one of the screws came loose. STR pegs the end of all 3 allen screws on butterfly plate so they cannot back out. I guess the best thing would be to check the back of all the screws to make sure this has been done.

STR does offer a 68mm TB that tapers down to 66mm on the intake manifold side. You may want to look into that one.

I did not jump to any conclusions Casey. I was simply relaying information on behalf of STR. I edited my post so that it doesn't point the finger at anyone in particular. I just thought that anyone that reads this post should not be turned off from an STR TB in fear of the butterfly screw coming loose.

I just didn't want the wrong information to get spread around. If one person reads the post about the screw blewing up someones motor, then they might start telling people, "Don't get an STR throttle body, it blew up my this guys motor" and so on. In fact, before I actually spoke to an STR representative, I had been warned about STR throttle bodies by two other people who had heard about Casey's friend's story.
