Engine won't restart when warm
Hi
I am experiencing problem with a K reg Honda Prelude 2.3i
It currently won't restart when the engines hot although it will restart once the engine cools (about 10mins+).
The garage said their was not enough fuel to restart the engine (but enough to keep it running so its fine to drive around provided you don't stall) You can see the fuel pipe colapsing when you try to restart as though their is a vacumn being created (already replaced this pipe with no success)
They also said its a water cooled fuel injection system and theres either a malfunction in the temperature sensors for the cooling system therefore not allowing enough fuel through or a its blown head gasket (No typical symptoms of this though)
Anyone any ideas
Thanks
Jon

Have you replaced the fuel pump main relay?? This is a common problem on 4th gens as the solder slowly cracks away on the relay over time. When the car is cold the metal still connects but as it warms up it expands and loses contact. You can either resolder your old main relay or get a new one from Honda. Do a search on here for "main relay" and I'm sure you'll find tons of info.

I had the same problem. replaced the main relay and it was fine. if you get under your steering colum and look up, you'll see a 2x3 gray box. that's the relay you need to replace or re-solder.

same thing happens with 4th gen accords. i was told to change my main relay and instead a reputable honda shop told me to just get it resoldered because the new main relays would do the same thing. so i got it resoldered and haven't had the problem since.

just FYI... the Accord main relays will work in the Prelude's as well, I am currently using a 94 Accord main relay in my 92 Si. </TD></TR></TABLE>
thanks for the heads up.

Changed the relay no success. Failed the emissions test at the MOT as well. Honda garage said there was difference in temperatures when comparing the top of the engine with bottom - the top is hotter and causing over fueling. It looks like theres a problem with the head gasket affecting the water flow which I have been quoted £450 to change. Its a shame becuse the car has only done 78,000 miles despite being over 12 years old..............looks like its decison time.
Open up your radiator and if you see oil and or little bits of metal/fiber then your head gasket is shot to ****. while the car is cold (otherwise the pressure from the hot coolant will shoot into ur face) remove the radiator cap, then start the car with the cap off, then grab a flashlight and check it out.
