converting auto rex to manual....
I've got a 91 automatic rex.....soon to have a jdm d15b vtec. I never really minded it being automatic, until i bombed around in my "new" 5 speed plymouth voyager yesterday!
Sadly, the beat-to-**** mini van is funner to drive then my rex
Soooo.....how hard is it to convert a crx to manual. I understand everything i need to do it, just wondering how much of a drag it is. Any help would be great!

Well if you have the time money and patience this is worth it because you wont have to hassle with all the crap of selling buying and junk like that you will need
manual tranny,shift linkage,pedal assembly,rear tranny mount,clutch cable,ecu
and some mechanical know how but its pretty straight forward just search on here there is a really great auto to manual swap guide some were...

Why do the conversion you ask?? Because my crx has only 72,000 original miles on it and the body is mint. So i wouldn't exactly call it a waste.

y would u want to do the conversion in the first place, it takes money and time, just sell that automatic crx
and get stick CR-X
</TD></TR></TABLE>
so he should buy a already done up car, Which someone else put there heart into?
I would much rather buy a car and do the work myself rather then buy a car that was totally hooked up...

selling his car and finding another car with different quirks to it (that cars these old tend to have) is twice the hassle of a manual conversion imo. Especially if he's doing a swap anyways.
Now since you're swapping already you just need to bolt the manual tranny up to the new engine, swap in a manual pedal assembly (the hardest part), cross some wires, and run a clutch cable. There's a website with a how to on it, do a search on here for "auto to manual."

Yes, i'd rather do it mysef instead of just buying a different car. I bought the car stock and have built all the suspension myself, i'd hate to just sell it....after all the time, money, and work ive put into it. If i wanted to i'd just buy a b16 rex, but i think it's more rewarding building you're car from the ground up. Thanks for the info guys....i'll start lookin for trannys

yeah thats what i'd go with. I was also thinking of an ex tranny? I'd like short gearing, but i also dont wanna be cuising on the interstate at high rpms. What's mybest bet? thanks
You will not have to weld anything, but you will have to drill two holes to hold the shift linkage up. You will need to remove your dash to get to a few of the bolts that hold in the pedal assembly. This is the hardest part of the swap and it wasn't that bad if you research the locations of the bolts that hold it in. I was in the same situation you were in with a low mileage automatic so I swapped it for a manual and don't regret a thing. Definetly go for it....its not as hard as everyone makes it seem.
you DO NOT have to remove the dash, just drop the steering column. You don't have to weld either. And you want a 88-91 crx or civic si tranny. Any newer and the trannies are hydraulic not cable like our cars are set up for. Switching to hydraulic is much more difficult and not worth it.
