ACT Clutch & Flywheel okay to rev while break in?
Is it okay to rev my car while i'm still breaking in the clutch and flywheel in? Or should i wait untill after the break in process? I just wanna test how it revs when i get it back, i know i shouldn't keep the revs high when i'm actually driving it untill 500miles.
DRive like a grandman dude. I burnt an exedy organic b/c of inproper breakin. My friend mr2 act 4 puck lasted only 2 months without proper breakin.
You want to avoid high load on the clutch disc so that it can seat properly. RPM's don't necessarily mean high load on the clutch...spinning the disc free-revving will do no harm, but keep in mind that generally the higher the RPM's are while driving, the more heat transfer AND harmonic vibrations that could disrupt the seating.

a member on g2ic stated it well. The biggest part of break in is the engagement.

Thanks for the good info guys
I just picked it up today. ACT HDSS & Prolite flywheel
. Clutch pedal travel decrease by a lot! It's really short now, you barely lift off the floor and it grabs (i'm pretty sure you can adjust this, but i like it how it is). Shifting & engaging seems smooth. On the way back cruising on the freeway, I did about 65-70mph the whole time rpms were around 3k-3.5k rpms, is that too high to be cruising in? City driving i shift usually around 2.5k and at the most 3k. Any tips would be appreciated. I thought the lightened flywheel would be hard to drive, but it's just like driving a stock flywheel... I don't get why people complain so much about it not being streetable.. it's soo easy to drive, i was thinking i had the stock flywheel in the whole time!

Well you aren't breaking in the clutch really during highway driving because you are not using the clutch. You need a solid 400 street miles to seat the clutch properly, and by street I mean starting/stopping, shifting, etc etc.

Right when i picked my car up from the shop that i had the ACT HDSS and Fidanza FW installed on i shifted as hard as i could. ha, i've had that clutch for over a year and it grabs just as good when i first got it.
high rpms are ok while breaking in a clutch its intense heat on the clutch that you want to avoid. this means no burn outs or launches or extreme power output. I broke in my clutch while on a new motor. I wanted to be able to rev my motor to redline at full throttle to establish good ring seal. no problems.
I replaced mine at 13,000 miles. I toasted it at the track. Replaced it on a thursday was back at track 2 days later on saturday. Keep in mind my car was less then a year old when i did it back in early 02.
okay thanks for the info guys! So it is okay to cruise the freeway above the 3k, its just that you shouldn't be shifting that high? or power shifting.
