help! how to tell if ecu is auto or manual?

Other optional ways of distinguishing an auto vs. 5spd P28's (and other OBD1 D & B-series ecu's):
1) Plug in the P28 into your car, if you get a check light code 19, then its definitly an AUTO ecu. Code 19 = lock solenoid found only on auto transmissions.
2) check the part number sticker.
if the last 3 digits are in the '50' range, its an Auto ecu. ie. 37820-P28-N50
3) remove the ecu cover and look for the extra black transistors seen here:
