Default fuel filter

My fuel economy was shot. I only get about 150 miles a tank. My brother works with a mechanic and he said that it might be the fuel filter. I was wondering is that my problem and how many filters are on the car. O yea it's an 89 crx dx. Thanks for any help

Its on the firewall between the charcol filter and your throttle body. 3 bolts are all thats needed to change it. 2 on the filter and ond that holds the filter strap. They are cheap at $15, and should be changed evry 4 years or about 50,000 miles. Its about a 10-15 min job if the engine is cold.

Thanks for the help. I hope that's my problem, cause spending $10 every two days sucks.

The two large bolts are a real bitch to get off sometimes...use a wrench to hold the filter in place and another to turn the bolt. Right underneath the bolt you can get a grip on the filter itself. Prepare to curse and go through lots of 4 letter words.

I just replaced mine. I assumed that I could get the banjos off easily. No way. Have air tools with a small impact ratchet. Tried that. Just turned the thing in the bracket. So.. I disconnected the line to the fuel rail and from the firewall and removed the bracket from the firewall. Underneath the banjo bolts are welded hex nuts. Once out of the car, use a wrench on the welded bolts (I think 21 mm) and use another on the banjo bolts. Outside of the car you have good leverage.

Also this is good because if you don't tighten the banjos enough it will leak. Use the new sealing rings that come with the new filter.

There's a garage down the street from me that charges 30 bucks and I have to buy the parts. Do you think it would be best if I just had him do it?

It's easy enough to do it yourself if you have any skills with a wrench. I did mine in a few minutes one night.

Just make sure you hold onto the filter when you start trying to loosen up the bolts. Make sure you have a 21mm wrench to hold it and a 17mm wrench to loosen the bolts.
