Default Newbie with head questions. Please help!!

Wassup guys. I'm a little new to the whole tuning thing so I have a few questions. I was a honda tech at the local dealership for 6 years but dont know a whole lot about whats safe with aftermarket stuff.

Anyway, heres my question. I have a 2001 integra ls with intake ,header and exaust and was looking to replace my stock head with a ported and polished head that has stage 3 cams with spring upgrade. My question is...will this hurt my stock bottom end, and if not, how much more H.P. can I possibly expect?? Is it worth it?? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

Welcome to Honda-tech.

Anyway, is the head you're replacing it with still a non-vtec head? You have to be a little more specific because that would require more modification than just putting in on your stock block.

"Stage 3" is just a number given by a manufacturer. It's impossible to tell what kind of cams those are. Do you have a manufacturer name? Generally, what you do to the head will not affect your bottom end at all. You don't have to worry about your bottom end failing.

Again, tell us what manufacturer cams you are getting and we can tell you the approximate power you will get. Generally cams won't give you too much power, but some might. Could be anywhere from 0-10whp about. Maybe more sometimes.

Are you going to be increasing your rev-limit any over stock?

To be honest I'm not sure what brand the cams are. He just said stage 3. also,yes...this is also a non v-tec head. Also, hadn't planned on increasing rev limiter any. ----Heres the deal, I want to keep it as reliable as possible of course{only has 13k miles on it} but have about a grand to spend on upgrades. Can you suggest something that would work better??

Well since you say you are working with a non-vtec head, it's a safe bet to say the cams are going to be Crower. They are one of the few companies who make non-vtec cams. There are couple of others, but they are rarely used.

Keeping the stock rev limiter is fine, and since you are getting the upgraded valvetrain, it would make things pretty good/reliable. It would be better to try and find out exactly what cams these are, if they are indeed Crower or not. Then you can look on the Crower site and get detailed specs and power production for your vehicle.

How much of this $1000 you have to spend are you putting toward this? He's giving you an entire head with the cams/valvetrain already in it? Why? You can just buy the cams and valvetrain yourself for cheaper. Not too difficult to install in a non-vtec head, if you have any mechanical knowhow.

Spending the full $1000 on this isn't a very wise choice, if it is indeed costing you $1000.

Any other suggestions you say? Get a turbo....heehee. Seriously. Save up just a bit more and try to do that.

Naaa. I'm only spending 300 on the head. As I said, I ame A.S.E certified honda mech...just don't know much about the "upgrade" part of it. Thanks for all the help . I'll probably go with boost but I need to do a little more reserch on this before jumping into anthing. Thanks again for all your help man!!!
