how easy is it to replace a clutch??
I have a 94 del sol s "1.5l". I think it needs a cluch cuz 4th and 5th are hard to get in. Anyways, the clutch is $140, and with me being poor and all, it would take a while for me to save up to buy the clutch AND get it put in. My boyfriend is good with cars, but I replaced the engine in my old civic and there is no clearance to move the tranny away from the engine without lifting the whole thing out! I was just wondering if anyone knew a somewhat easy way to replace it so I don't ruin my tranny by waiting to save to get it put in. Any help would be wonderful. Thanks

the best way is to remove the 3 mounts(top, front and back) and slide the tranny to the side a little and then drop it. I dont think your clutch is going bad maybe its your synchros. Do you feel a difference in the clutch?
I just got the car 3 weeks ago, so I don't have much to compare it to. I was thinking the syncros may be going bad, but I was hoping that it was the clutch so I don't have to spend all that money to get it fixed.
Support the tranny with a jack and then COMPLETELY remove the tranny mounts. Should allow enough clearence to slide it left and then drop it. Changing the clutch over is cake, especially if you have an alignment tool (all kits come with one usually). Even if you don't have an alignment tool, you can eyeball it and use your pinky to line it up (worked fine for me
).
).
Good. I was hoping it was somewhat easy. Since I replaced my engine in my old car, I know where all the mounts are now, and how easy they come off. I guess I need to take the axles and everything off, too. Thanks guys.

agreed. Unless the clutch is slipping, your problem lies in the trans.
(there's a write up on how to replace the clutch somwhere on here but I can't find it now)

It's not your Clutch. Its your transmission. If it was your clutch u would feel it slip. The transmission is your problem. I had mine replaced for the same reason. It is also alot more expensive than a clutch.

Great, can't wait. Maybe I'll try flushing it and putting new oil in it. Maybe it has tranny fluid in it now and it's not getting to those gears or something.
