High gas mileage.
I was looking on the internet and it says that my 94 civic dx 1.5 coupe is rated at 40mpg hwy. I just took a 1200 mile trip and my gas mileage was a high as 50mpg. I have the stock motor with a couple of bolt ons....CAI, exhaust, spark plugs, and plug wires. I have also messed around with the timing a little, advancement mostly, I am just trying to figure out how a car with 172,000 miles and 10 years old increases gas mileage that much.
Yeah, you'll have that. The gas ratings that come out when the car is new always have low mpg. A car dealer told me something like that they have to use crappy gas or something when they do the ratings.... I wasn't really paying attention
It's something like that though.

they rate a cars mileage on it when it is new and the motor and drivetrain have not yet been broken in. also they do it on 87 octane gas. so, after breaking it in and using good gas higher #'s are almost always gauranteed.

I have the same car. I just bought it in July with 208,000 on it. It now has 213,... (Yes, I do a lot of travelling to see family, but for mostly car audio competitions)
The only thing I have been able to do to it, is to upgrade the air filter---that's it. I get about the same amount of gas mileage as you did, although not up to 50mpg. This car does a lot better than my 90 or 88 civic. All of my cars have been automatics also--I felt like I was always filling up on the other 2 & they had lower mileage too. (88 has 155,... when I sold it in July--it was a maroon 4 door & the 90 hatchback had 200,586 when the timing belt broke on the way to the repair shop to have it replaced.)
It so amazing how far these cars will go. I will NEVER drive anything else besides a Honda or Acura.

hondas are great. I am loving mine, that i bought the start of this summer. The people that owned it before me however did not treat it so great so now i think my piston rings are bad because it is burning oil at high rpms. Does anyone know if it is hard to replace piston rings or should i just buy a new engine, like a b16 or something. Thanks for any help
Once I replaced my PVC valve I was getting around 35mpg highway in my 95 couple with a jdm d15b vtec boosted and running Crome with dsm 450cc injectors, gotta love 4 cylinder mileage.
