Default Crappy Gas milage...

Since I got this civic, 90 Ex MT D16A6, gas milage in town has been good but on the highway has been unsatisfactory. In town I get almost 32mpg while on the highway I only get 34mpg.

Since I got the car in June, I have installed/changed the following:

10W-30 Valvoline with puralator filter
NGK V-Power plugs
Purolator airfilter
Bosch O2 sensor
replaced the stock alternator

Is there anything else that I should be looking at? I have plans to change the plug wires and PCV valve. Any other suggestions?

Sounds about right to me. Are you use to seeing more than that?

Sea-foam, clean your injectors, check your fuel filter. Is it burning oil? 32/34 is really good. what were you used to?

well for one, she isnt burning any oil. I figured that I should be getting more then that on the highway. Close to 40. My girls car, 94 DX, gets over 36mpg at 80mph with the ac on. I was thinking that I should be getting somewhere around that.

I have ran some sea foam through the gas and the fuel filter is stock. I will change that next if I have to. Would an old filter really make a difference on milage?

Probably not.

What motor came in the 90 EX? That could be why your milage is less than her DX. You could check your valve gapping, timing, and compression to make sure your motor's in spec. More than likely you're seeing avg gas milage for that vehicle

If your filter is dirty it may be restricting flow. If it is letting pollutants into the fuel line, it could be lowering the octane rating of the fuel being burned. Thus lowering your gas mileage. It probably would not be a noticeable change. Have you tried higher octane gas? Sometimes the difference in price is out weighed by the extra mileage though. I think your GF's DX is a freak...LOL

Dude, 32/34 is great. Its not a toyota eco... I get aboutr 35mpg on the highway. Clean your Throttle body, injectors...replace the fuel filter, im sure you will see a few more miles with a new one, how many miles are on the car? I bet it is automatic, right? Get new spark plugs....just wondering, why would get buy new spark plug wires....without new plugs. ??? get new plugs....gap them according to OEM specs.....good luck

Sea Foam!!! Helllzzz yeaahhh. It's not just for two strokes anymore.

But what kinda mileage you expecting? I average 30 to 31 mpg combined on my D16Z6.

A DX does have a smaller engine (D15B7??? I dunno, it's a 1.5) and I think the 5th gen has a lower CD than the 4th gen that could contribute to a 2mpg difference.

In my 95 Dx coupe, I get 36 mpg, highway, with a slight mix of stop/go traffic. No a/c. On the lowest grade pump gas. Manual Trans.

Like I said before, I figured it would be higher. My car is bone stock also... I accept the fact that it is as good as its going to get in its current state.
