Been getting really bad gas mileage
Lately, I've been getting really bad gas milege, usually about 200-220 miles to a tank, I don't let it get all the way down to E, just really close and then I refill. I changed my air filter about 2 days ago, and so far I'm a little above a half tank and I've only gone 93.7 miles according to my tripometer. I have an 94 EJ1 and its automatic. I'm going to change my spark plugs later tonight. If its not the plugs I'm guessing its one of my o2 sensors or my fuel filter. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks it advance

you are taking the right steps.
some other things that can contribute are: underinflated tires, bad alignment, old or wrong weight engine oil, spark plug wires/cap/rotor, fuel injectors, clogged cat.
remember to reset the ecu after tune-up.

Re: Been getting really bad gas mileage (tilt)
Ahh... I don't know a lot of that stuff. I'm mainly into cosmetic things. I'll have to check my tires and my alignment is just about perfect. I changed my oil about a month ago, I used some different oil (The name and vicosity slips my mind) but I usually use penzoil 10-30.
Are fuel injectors hard to change? How do I check of my cat is clogged? How do I reset my ECU?

I would vote it could be your 02 sensor dying (you only have one, as your car is OBDI). You're on the right path though. A dirty air filter can cause crappy gas mileage.

Yeah, I;ve been thinking that its my o2 sensor. Is that thing hard to change/fix? Its down by my headers/heatshield so its easy access. If my o2 sensor was dying, would I be having any other problems besides shitty *** mpg?

Re: Been getting really bad gas mileage (SlammedSi00)
i recently had this same problem. It was my fuel filter which caused it. To reset your ecu disconnect your battery for a couple of minutes. And correct me if im wrong but i think OBD1 has a fuse in the enigne bay for the ecu remove it to reset it.
The O2 sensor could cause your engine to go into a default set loop mode. Which could give you bad milage again correct me if im wrong.

they are easy to change. i wouldnt bother touching them until youve done everything else though. imo, honda injectors are pretty reliable. I just listed it as a possibility.
you are prob gonna have to take the cat off and inspect it visually. if you shine a light on the other end you should be able to see a honeycomb like effect. Again, the possibility is slim, I would only inspect it if you end up changing your o2 sensor.
just pull the negative terminal on your battery for a couple seconds and the ecu will reset. or you can pull the ecu and hazard fuse to reset the ecu.

Re: Been getting really bad gas mileage (tilt)
Oh, I thought resetting my ECU would be me visually getting the ECU and doing something with the ECU itself. I did upgrade my alarm last week, thus I had to disconnect my battery completly, so I think thats already been done.
So the fuel filter... Would I have to replace it? Or would it be an easy fix?
Again, thanks for all the help guys.

i just changed my timing belt, water pump, and now i have similar problem, before i can get like 320 now, i only get like 280 or so.
and my timing is correct also, used a timing gun to check.
anyone knows why?

You have to replace it... It is in a sealed container so you cant clean the screen. It's really easy just make sure you relieve your fuel pressure or your engine is gonna take a bathe. To do this disconnect the fuel pump( connector located under your backseat) and run your car til it dies. Then open your fuel tank to relieve execess pressure. Then your just a 14 or 15mm away from disconnecting it from the lines.( Make damn sure you do not lose the washers) they are crush washers. If you replace them with anything but it will leak. I learned from experience. Max time (10 minutes if you hurry) 1 hour if you lose the washers and live far away from town. Good Luck

make sure you remove the lower fitting with Flared wrenches. The brass or what ever metal is SO soft and will strip fairly eaisly. If your doing a fuel filter, REPLACE the washers. They are crush washers, which means they are semi thick, but then when you tighten them, they get crushed so you don't leak anything. Most fuel fitlers will come with washers.

Re: (asmallsol)
Hmm. Should I get an OEM fule filter or another brand? Currently my engine is too hot, so I'm gonna wait to change the plugs until it cools off. I don't wanna bend or harm any of the aluminum and cause damage.
