ITR Water Drainage..
Hi All,
Does anyone know how or the route that water should flow from the windscreen on an ITR - I just cant figure it out.
My reason for asking is I cleaned my engine bay last week and noticed a touch of rust on the edge of the firewall nr the master cylinder. So this weekend i removed the wiper cowl panel and started rubbing out the rust and repainted, then, waxoyled it. The rest of the area was fine.
But I come to putting it all back together and I notice all the rubber/foam seals have perished on the wiper panel, so I have to improvise a little, but I dont know how to tackle the perished material that sits on the edge of this panel(windscreen edge).
The material that was on it is so perished I cant make out if it was a foam or rubber. Anyway I put it all back together for now and there is just a very small gap (< 1mm)between the panel and the windscreen and i cant figure out how Honda intended water to run, if water is NOT meant to run under that panel then i am gonna have to seal it some how; I dont know how. All I know is that panel is a pain to remove with and I really dont want to be removing it again. Maybe I will have to improvise with sealant.
Just while I am on, when the panel is removed there is a foam filter down there in the bulkhead, that looks like its for the blower. Does this have to be replaced everyso often? It looked fine just a bit dirty.
Hope you all understand what I am talking about.
Heres a pic its no. 15 :-

IMO, you only have to seal anything if it's going to the interior. As long as the water is outside, it should flow and not stay at one place.
When I was looking at it last night I thought well this isnt going to be specific to mine, it looks to me like an ITR weakness in years to come.
Certainly if the car becomes a classic I am sure guides will read - "if possible check for corrosion under the windscreen wiper panel, the seals tend to fail which can lead to expensive repair bills if the corrosion has occured.
My car is one of the oldest being a 96 spec and living in the UK our weather is a catalyst for rust. I am glad I have become aware of it, not that there is any corrosion under there but im sure giving it another 5-6 years and not waxoyling it I would be in a worse situation.
Still I am confused as to whether I should be sealing it there or not.....
