Ok i just rencently installed a b16 tranny on my LS and sometimes 5th gear would slips out when im driving. I was goin like 70-80 and suddenly it would feel like im gasin it in neutral, the RPM would keep moving but the car was not. When this happens usually i would step on the clutch and pull back the shifter into neutral then back to fifth then it would ride normally again. Could it be bad synchros? but it doesnt really pop back from 5th to the middle which is neutral, it looked to be still in fifth but my RPM just jumps. This happened to me like 4-5 times after i installed the B16 tranny and it always happen in 5th. None of the gears grind, all my shifts seem to go fine. Please help me, im hopin its my clutch because tranny would cost so much more to fix.

 

It's the clutch that is going out by the way you explained it. What you experienced is one of the ways to check the clutch if it's still cool.

Put in 5th gear and see if the car moves relative to the rpms' and if it doesn't then the clutch is going out.

Did you check the clutch/pp condition when you install the b16 tranny? I'll assume you didn't.

 

Yea but it doesnt happen continuously, like it only happened 3 times today from a 3 hours drive i went on (1 hour and a half each way). The RPM seems to be a little weird in 4th too, but im not sure. Maybe the clutch is just beginin to slip so i cant really feel in yet. I know its not the tranny fluid because the shop that swapped my tranny already put some new MTF in there. I dont know if they use enough though, i gave 3 bottles and i got almost 1 full bottle back. I dont know really know what they did because i ddint stay to watch, had work.

btw i went to the track today, and when i launched at 1st the RPM was kinda flyin before the car move....i got 2.3-2.4 for my 60ft

 

only suppose to put 2.1 liters of in the tranny.

 

anybody know wut else could be wrong? it doesnt happen all the time, like today i was driving my car waitin for it to happen again so i can figure out wuts wrong, but it never happen. I dont think its the clutch anymore, prolly the tranny. If the synchros are bad, is it suppose to make any kinda noise when the the gear pop back out? i think when my 5th gear popped out, it didnt pop out right in the middle but it was halfway so it still looked to be in 5th, and it didnt make any kinda noise though.

 

It sure sounds like your clutch is slipping...
