Default going turbo... which oem pistons to use?

ok i'm taking my type-s pistons out for an oem piston with a lower compresion and willl be using JE rings..something like accord pistons or maybe even stock h23
so basically which oem piston should i use and how will it hold 12psi? never boosted before so i need info in getting away with stock sleeves and oem pistons with 10-12 psi.

Well for one i don't think the JE rings will work with the OEM piston. You need to check the ring thickness of both the OEM and JE to see if they will work. And 10-12 psi you will not see on a stock block. Maybe 10 psi only on race day and tuned.

show me the person whos running 10 lbs on OEM stock block. Why use OEM pistons when you could use some nice quailty forged internals that are made for boost?? Trying to get around the ol FRM re-sleeving action huh ?

Are you using an H23 VTEC?

If so, use OEM H23 pistons. It will drop the compression down into the 9's, IIRC.

check out Firedrake's setup on the Dynos page and his site @ http://www.solid-technology.com

I think he is running 12 psi stock engine and has been doing so for quite a while. You can do a search for his usermname here and drag up more info

Accord (F20/F22/F23) pistons . . . . 85mm bore.
Prelude (H22/H23) pistons . . . . 87mm bore.

accord pistons are not 87mm bore...that is your problem.

I'm sorry but swapping in an OEM H piston like an H23 is kinda dumb..the ringlands won't last very long, but hey if you know what you're doing good luck then. H23 is the lowest compression 87mm bore piston available to you. In an H23 VTEC setup it would be >9.8:1 but I don't have the exact numbers, I would estimate 9.3:1 but if you want actuals ask rick solis since he said he was going to figure this all out a month ago (but I haven't seen anything)

yes i believe he did, but he is a well respected tuner.

most people can't just tune their own setup's to achieve what he has

if it was me and i was boosting on stock internals, i wouldn't boost more

than 8psi and i would still want awesome engine management.

I ran 8psi of boost on my stock block h23a for over 2 years with no problems. And that was untuned with stock injectors and an FMU, lol. A friend of mine is running roughly 6-7psi with hondata on his stock h23 and he hit 250whp.

Honestly, get hondata, do a conservative street tune for 8psi and call it a day. Don't waste your time with swapping pistons. As far as brian is concerned (firedrake), he has spent a lot on fuel upgrades and that car from my knowlege has been tuned, tuned, and tuned time and time again. A simple 2hr dynojet tune is not going to cut it if you want to run 12psi on a stock block while retaining daily driveability.

this is what I will be doing while I save up for the engine work(which should take about 4 months)and I will have it tuned by boosted_hybrid(Jeff)
