SiR registered in cali?
Yesterday i was driving and seen a real deal SiRII driving right next to me and even thought i knew i could beat him or run with him i was just in aww because the driver was right next to me and it was so nice and had tags. Now you can add tags to any car though...i want an sir crx but dont you have to get the japan deregistration or the seller has to have that? also then we come to motor issues i mean there is no way im puttin a SOHC 1.6 in there to pass smog. I mean i could find an si del sol from 94-95 intake manifold and ecu and that would work i guess but does anyone know how to do registration? dont they pass the vin #'s if you have the right papers so its fine untill u deal with the motor????
Do a search on here and you should find some more info... it's been asked before.
It has to have a lot of paperwork from US and where ever it shipped in from.
It has to have everything DOT legal - bumper supports, correct headlights, etc
It has to have the correct smog equipment and pass smog. (I wonder whot motor that guy ran??)
Lots of crap. If you are serious, probably contact DMV for the entire run down for what you need.

yea my brother mentioned DOT too. I dont think i'll have to deal with that. I searched all over on here but didnt find anything im going to do an outside search but yea im am dead serious about getting one i love crx's i have one now with an LS...i guess i would leave the B16 in it and just build on it like do itr or jun head...i hope someone posts some info too...
I really doubt it was a real SiRII. I know 2 different guys in my town that both have one and all they did was get a new front clip and install it, they didnt even have a B16 they had the stocked motors and next week i am going to install a CRX SiR front clip on my 88 hatchback and its going to be RHD and have a B16A. It is really hard to actually get a japanese car over and get it registered
Yea not sure i didnt look under the hood or have time to talk to him but i didnt think of just throwing a whole from clip on there...so in other words you would have to weld the whole front half of the body on?? I would be scared something would go wrong and i just lost the front of my car...i was about to just be like screw it i'll get one from canada but its still left hand drive cept witht he sir headlights and all...well hey im going to school for real estate so if it comes down to cutting my car in half and getting the other half welded on the **** if i have the money its on!! let me know how that goes and how it all works i would like to know...
Actually you can register a JDM Vehicle under the US. One problem is it costs $5k to go through the DOT inspection and most likley it will pass. The you have to figure how much you pay for the car too on top of that. It must be de-registered from japan(shipping papers help too) then taken to the dmv for Vin # processing. After its DOT approved the vin# isnt a problem. I think the smog regulations for cali still come in play so depending on the vehicles motor is where you sit. Say you get a crx sir for instance. If it came down to it all you need it the 94-95 del sol b16 ecu and intake manifold the hook up you vaccum hoses and sensors. There is actually a company that does this specifically with Skyline's. they transport them here to the US, DOT approve them then sell them for bank because its a true JDM car and people will spend the money to have one. Its amazing!! Im actually really considering this myself but not for awhile. I just wonder well if they do it with the skyline what would you register insurance under? special vehicle? I know if you get a car from japan that was built in the US as well then you still register it as whatever it is. There is a few SiRII's running around here that are 100% legal...anyway i answered my ? thought i would let you know...on yea that isnt really a good idea to swap clips i mean if you think about it thats going to mess with the strength of the unibody. You can do it with a normal frame body for instance a 67 mustang or something but a unibody car i would think that is pretty unsafe...why not just get a front clip and cut both firewalls out and switch them then do the rear crossmember and steering with the dash? I dont know but good luck with that....later

besides being UBER jdm when it comes down to it a crx is a crx
and paying 10gs for a jdm one and 1g for a usdm one and then spending the extra 9gs and building something way more nicer than a stock jdm crx seems alot more smarter
but hey go ahead and get one u live in cali (as do i)so most likely its going to get jacked

to convert something to RHD...if you wanna take the time go right ahead. You will feel like you are driving in a ditch all the time, and like some have said try, yielding to make a left hand turn at an intersection. It'd be cool to have one, but not over here.
You don't just cut/weld a front half of a car on, you cut a t-shape or whatever out of the firewall and mod like so, lotta work, but has and can be done.

I am going to have to weld restraints on it to make it stronger. yeah cuz that would suck to drive and get hit on the side and have the front end break off I would die but i trust the guy that is doing it for me and i am going to help him do it. so wish me luck
