What kind of hood dso u use?

OPTREL bling... got it on sale for $215 shipped first day pic, its beat now...
http://www.weilerdirect.com/sh....html got it in 3 days..
Auto dark rules... I hate fliping the mask down, I can't tig w/o it now... (can't weld with it either

I like the optrel better than the others i've tried because the headgear feels alot better, and controles are easier/ faster to get to. On some of the cheaper autodarks i've noticed that you can see the flash when you strike your arc.

here's my crapper:

I like this thing and I don't. I like it cause you can set whatever shade you want, but I don't like the fact that it lets quite a bit of light in around you, especially if I'm doing heavy mig at work (0.045" and 1/16" wire). I also don't like the pricetag, because there's masks just as good for half the price, but this one was an awesome deal, so I snagged it

I've got that same one, though a bit cleaner
, and i love it. I had a cheap Jackson auto darkening with the small window and they speedglass is much nicer to weld with. They'll all get the job done, but some have more features and definitely cost alot more money!

I've got the Hornell Speedglass, too. I like them because venting for fresh air actually works! The reason Hornell is so expensive, is because of how fast the auto-darkener turns on. There are like 7 layers to hornell hoods viewing glass. When light hits the first layer, it turns on the back layer. Or something to that effect anyway. They operate in 1/25,000/sec. PDQ!!!
Plus the newer ones can be retro-fitted w/ a respirator or clean air delivery system.

I use this Miller hood. I chose this one because the price was good and it has a 1/3rd larger viewing window than most Auto Darkening hood. Has multiple settings for lense and Head band. You can move the whole hood forward or back to accomodate your welding position.
It is nice to have the extra size lense when you are inside a car welding up a roll cage.
