Default Oil Pressure Question **EMERGENCY**

***UPDATE AT THE BOTTOM***

While driving to work today. My electronic greddy oil pressure guage suddenly dropped to 0 psi when I let off the throttle today. I immediately turned off the car and cruised into a parking lot. Once I got into the parking lot, I turned the motor on and the guage jumped a little but went right back down to 0psi as. I let the motor idle for a few seconds to see if the guage would go up at at all, but it just stayed at 0psi. The oil light is on upon upon start up, but does not stay on when I let the motor idle for a few seconds even with the guage reading 0. Whats going on? I started noticing that the oil guage started reading just a little lower than usual since yesterday. That was why I was very conscious at looking at the oil guage today while driving to work. BTW...my greddy oil pressure sensor is tapped into my greddy sandwich block adapter.

How long does the oil light stay on? Is the oil level ok?

Maybe your gauge has faulty readings.

I'm thinking it might be a faulty gauge, maybe the wiring is shorting out somewhere?

If you did have an oil pressure problem, your oil light would stay on.

Plus you said that you let it idle while your gauge was readin 0. If there actually was 0 oil pressure, your engine would have most likely siezed up by now.

bump for more expertise.

Well..I didn't let it idle for more than 3-4 seconds....so Didn't think it would seize that quick.

If there was truly and absolutely no oil pressure whatsoever, my oil light would have stayed on correct?

your stock dummy light turns on when it sees less than 3-5 psi so im also leanning towards faulty senser or gauge.
i would go to the autoparts store and buy a $10 mechanical gauge and test

**UPDATE**

Ok..I got a cheap mechanical oil pressure gauge from Autozone today..and let me tell you...It was a damn Pita driving around looking for a fitting that would fit my Greddy Block Adapter! We drove to autozone, Oreilly's, Napa's, even Home Depot. Finally we were able to find the fitting we needed.

So we get the mechanical oil guage hooked up...and what a sigh of relief...I got Oil pressure...normal oil pressure in fact. It read right up to 80psi on startup. And once the motor warmed up...and the Fan engaged...Oil pressure read at 18psi. So..Huge..Huge..Huge Sigh of relief!

Here is the twist to this story... After noticing that the oil pressure read fine on the mechanical guage...I hooked my Electronic greddy gauge back up. I crank the motor up...and WTF!!!! Now my greddy guage is reading normal!!..I didn't change anything...WTF IS GOING ON!!??? I would have felt better if the greddy gauge didnt' work at all...but now it just leaves me thinking "what the hell happened??"

I would say, almost classic, loose wire/connection problem. Problem solved by reinstalling remaking connections.

Im so scared to drive my car now I dont' want to get stranded..especially while going to classes. We actually dropped the oil pan a week ago to put on a new oil pan gasket..and we cleaned out the oil pan pretty good.

Can we rule out the oil pump completely now?
