Crank Pulley Bolt What Size socket?
I'm getting tools together for a Timing belt change for my 1.5 engine. THe crank bolt looks bigger than any size socket I have, so I;d like to know exactly what to buy. If anybody can remember exactly what socket size it takes, I'd really appreciate you passing that along.

SOHC crank bolt is 17mm
axle nuts- 32mm
most bolts for the engine are 10-12-14-17....well most of the entire car is made up of these sizes

what you should do is bring it to a shop, have them zip off the bolt and then put it back on, its a bitch to take off for the first time...
I talked to a shop about doing that, and they suggested I put a breaker bar jammed up againt the frame and use the starter to break the bolt loose. Has anybody ever done that? I heard something about honda engines running backwards, and this trick wouldn't work on hondas.

hehehe. I wouldn't suggest that. I've seen crank bolts siezed on so badly a 650 ft/lbs 1/2'' imact couldn't break them free. Hell my craftsman 1/2 breaker bar is twisted because of one. I know for a fact the starter will not break it free. My first swap the engine sat in the weather guessing for a long time, because the cylinders had rusted up. The starter wouldn't turn over at all. Had to use a breaker bar on the crank to free it up.
