WANNA GO FASTER!!!!!!
so yea i have a crx with a d15b2 and i wanna go faster but i dont have much money. to get straight to the point would it be a good idea to convert to mpfi and put a sohc VTEC head. my engine has bout 168k on it and wanna avoid a headache. please help?!
I agree. I know you wana go faster. but why spend money on a SOHC Vtec D block??? just get a b16. its cheep for a D , but ur still going to be slow, compared to the people who did it right and got a B.
50 bucks is cheep!!!! WOO! Vtec will help in the top end of course. but you know what goes along with replacing a head right? Timming belt job, Water pump. Gaskets.
If you can do it ur self, go for it man!!!! 50 bucks is hella cheep, how many miles on the head??????

I have a d16z6 swap into my crx and it is by no means "slow". Also, a b series swap is pretty expensive taking into consideration you have to get the engine, tranny, ecu, linkages, and throttle cable. Then you need mounts and a timing belt and a water pump... the list goes on. I did my d series swap for total of 1200$ including the money I used to purchase beer during the swap.... there was a lot of beer...
For the amount of money i could tie up into a b series, I can now instead use that to pick up a supercharger or a turbo...and still have money to rebuild the engine so that I dont have to worry about the internals going to crap. Now for the amount of money you just spent on a b series swap, I have the same amount of money into an engine that will pull on your engine.
Given also that you could just as easily turn the engine around and pull on me with more money invested to get a turbo or what not. I am just saying I can do it cheaper and end up with very decent results. So please dont knock on the d series.

shut the **** up.
a B16 has the same (about) ******* TQ as a D series.
-since you have not dont a swap before (it sounds like) man...DO stay with the D series. Do a mini Me....grab you a Vtec head...new ECU and harness.....or just re use your old one and add in the knock sensor and vtec wires.....i think the VTEC d series also had a 2nd o2 sensor that some didnt? maybe i've gotten it 'twisted' but ..whatever. But it is easy to stick with D series and just change up ****...I've some super fast SOHC ...(something i would think had a b16 in it) with just a z6 head. I've seen a few quick mini me's in FL too.
Talking about getting a B16, it will be more than 1300. Because if you don't have a shop to do it at...AND it sounds like you dont know much....your gonna need to pay someone to do it...pay someone to use their shop....or you better meet some DAMN nice people with a garage, lift, and tools. You will have to buy new axels for a B series...new ECU, harness....Tranny, starter (maybe) dizzy(maybe) new hoses....new gaskets...new plugs and new plug wires ....and it goes on. fluids (oil, tranny fluid, break fluid) i mean...come on. 1300$ for a b series is a ******* deal...if YOU find me a complete swap with hoses, axels..blah blah blah....hit me up. you might find the head and block MAYBE with a dizzy for 1300$ lol . but you never know...sometimes you can find good deals.
if your going to decide to get a B series....like just about everyone else would say before they said get a B16....get a B18....higher tq.
you might wanna swap out your old tranny to a D16y8 tranny or an old si tranny

i think swappin heads sounds like a good start. or try and round up the whole long block and drop that, if u do that spend some loot on a new clutch.

Yeah definitely stay with a D-series. B16s are like ******** and opinions, everybody's got one. And, that extra 30-40 horses can easily be made up for with the money saved by staying D-series. And, its getting harder and harder to find a decent b16 thats not beaten to death by some 17 y/o punk. My DOHCZC is stout as a motha too, aside from the 'weakish' rods(not really that weak, good 'till around 200whp so I've heard) its a damn strong motor. Most ppl swear its a B-series until I show them the ZC stamp, or the valve cover. For the average budget racer, I'd say a mini-me/ZC swap would be a perfect way to make your way into the scene. Also, its such a simple changeover that even the most novice of tuners can easily grab a 10mm wrench and start going faster. If your set on a B-series motor, thats great, more power to ya. But when your at the track, everyones gonna say,'whats that?' 'Oh, another b16 hatch/rex.' Maybe I am biased since I own a DOHCZC, but I'll buy and blow apart 10 more before I go get a B-series. Just my .02, - Darrell
if it was me i would save to get a b series but since you dont got money i say go d16 or maybe zc i ve seen some crazy d16z6 before in my friends car and it ran like a b series. the thing about a bseries is that they dont really make that much of a difference until you somewhat build it up, they have a lot of potential. i mean you could definetly tell the difference between the series but the numbers are not that different
ive had both d and b swaps ill take the b16 hands down here so much more fun to drive and even if u mod a d its still not going to keep up with a b16 with the same mods...... let alone the feel of the two different motors is big ...save up get a b16...search around everyone is going to say somthing different....over all look at how much money you have to spend, both swaps have there pros and cons and yes do it the right way the 1st time dont half *** anything
Yeah just go H or K or B or D and be happy with what you have, cause they're all motors that can be built just as well as the others.
in all honsety i had a dohc zc and it kepty with b16s. but zc's r shitty motors. tehy break easy. get a b16 tahts what i did. and there is a reason everyone has one. they r good.

you're in the wrong motorsport then.
Fast = money
there is NO WAY around it.
People say do this that and this to a D-series. D-series are lighter than B-series, but, that's the only performance advantage. B-series have a higher initial cost.
$1800 puts a stock b16a into your car, running and ready to drive.
$1800 on a D-series is a built head and block that runs a little quicker than a B16.
$1800 could also buy you a DSM that, with $500 more will outrun both.
Want to win races with as little money invested... bracket race or autocross.

your stock b series engine pulled on a turbo'd d16? who put that system together, obviously something was not right there. a b16 puts down 160hp at the crank... d16z6 puts down 127hp... torque is not much of a difference between the 2 engines. If he was turbo at 6-8#s of boost he is either a really bad driver to have you pull on him with a stock engine, or his turbo doesn't work.

look, it's not like i completely welded their doors shut, they hang pretty good
however, my car is totally gutted, maybe they had full interior.
my point is, a b16 will suprise you. IMO there's just not that much hope in single cams
