Well, I've owned both b-series (b17a and b18c) and d-series (d15b8 and y7/a6), and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by the performance of my sohc (see sig) after I broke it in and could wind it out. I loved my gsr hatch, but I am having a lot of fun with the single and it is so much cheaper to mod.

I would have to say that the SOHC is very under estimated. That's why I use it.

Check out my site SOHC guys. http://www.allmotorsohc.com

What's is the highest streetable whp for the SOHC's? I'm just curious. What types of setups make the big power on these engines? I have a D16Z6, I'm toying with the idea of turbo or all-motor. I just want some decent power.

i like mine so far... just gotta sort out one more thing and it'll be running perfect... my parts rundown:

y7 block
PM6 pistons and rods, arp rod bolts
y8 head (may have been milled just barely for straightness--the machine shop never told me if they milled it or not) with some diy pnp and intake valve deshrouding with a y8 IM with some slight port work also
comp cams valve springs/stock retainers
comp cams 59300/GE cam gear 4deg adv
home depot intake/cheapo header/random tech. cat/apexi ws

and hopefully a y8 tranny at some point soon.

and if i ever make it to a dyno, i'm hoping to put down somewhere around 130-140 whp on a dynojet............... hopefully

i have a boosted D17 EX and i love it....spinning all the way through 3rd. Haven't dyno'ed it yet, but someone with a very similar set-up made 183 whp and 189 ft/lbs of torque at 8psi on a LX with stock exhuast.

Default I Love Mine

I love my D15B7 in my hatch, If you guys have not notice. Most of the other cars ( not Hondas ) that have 1.5L motors are tuttle under a Honda SOHC motor. Even domestic brands with over 2.4L engines are still slower than my DX. I have to give props to Honda for building great motors.

I'm currently running around with a D16Z6 head on a D15B8 bottom end. For the drivetrain, I'm running an EX tranny, Exedy clutch and Fidanza flywheel, and other upgrades include a D16Y8 intake manifold and a cheap *** intake and header. My car is bone *** slow, but then again it did come stock with a B18C5.
