Default hydrolocked????

you guys are all probably going to laugh but here is the story....i am mudding with some of my friends (i have a 98 accord lx with about 73k miles) i had been going threw some mud and what not, but nothing big like all of my friends with SUVs were doing. So i decided that i would go through a big puddle of mud and water. As i got about half way through i got stuck and i cut the engine (we took in alot of water in the car). One of my buddies pulled me out of the mud and we tried to start the car but all it would do is click. All of the electrical things seemed to be fine and we tried pulling the plugs and starting the engine with no water coming out...my filter was soaked though.... is it hyrdolocked and how much do you think this will cost me?? Worried teen is never going mudding again

soaked filter doesn't always = hydrolocked. Your car won't HL if u showed your filter but it will have u give it a bath.

If you car starts with no funny noises then ur good. Plus mud is thick so it will not get past your filter element.

Yeah i think its HLed. The would be no reasons for it not to start up.

Would a compression test help? Bent rod would result in low compression right?

Ummm . . . I'm sure you feel stupid enough so I won't say anything about that.

Okay, before you tear it down or anything go ahead and check all that you can. I would take off the starter, alternator, battery, and take it all to Advanced or wherever and have it checked. Doesn't hurt to try a couple of things first. Also undo some plugs and see if they have water in them. Look around real good under your hood before you do an engine swap or something.

H2290 was right on. Also if you have access to a garage store it in there for a day or two with a dehumidifier. Change the basic tuff you should be fine.

first things first if you wanna see if its hydrolocked try to manually turn your crank. put the front end on jackstands, take the driver side wheel off, put the car in nuetral and stick your tire iron or a 19mm socket with an extension into the star shaped looking hole in your fender liner and you will see a bolt in there, that is the bolt for your crank pulley. try to turn the engine. if it wont turn and seems "locked" up then you probably have hydrolocked your motor. this little scare has happened to me twice but luckily i didn't hydrolock my motor either time. but i wasn't mudding lol, just high standing water. also you might wanna change your plugs and if the crank does turn, pull all your plugs out and turn the crank the water (if any is in there) will squirt out the plug holes, just have something to soak it up.
sounds to me like you have an electrical problem if it just clicks and doesn't attempt to turn over. you may have fried your ecu from taking in water since it is in your passenger floor board.

and the moral of the story kids don't take your wrong wheel drive accord offroading lol

I'm sorry to say, but you deserved to have your engine hyrdrolocked. Accords ARE NOT off road vehicles, and I have no idea whatever possesd you to do such a thing.

Buy a damn Jeep and leave the poor accords alone.

this may should trivial but try a fresh battery or charge... then while you try to turn it over have someone tap the starter with a hammer lightly.

you maybe just frozen it in place or whatnot... very common. (starters always hang after mudding in all my friends trucks.)

btw first thing, keep the plugs out and turn it over by hand until you sure there is no water in the cyl.

Since you took in water on the floorboards then yeah you probably fried the ECU. Good God man, what were you thinking???

The correct method is to remove all spark pluge and cranl engine. Be sure to disconnect distributor connector. after all water has been pumped out of engine, reconnect engine and try again. good luck

if it just clicks, it's an electrical problem...a hydrolocked motor can do many things, but it usually still runs, or at least starts, at least for a little while...usually you bend a rod and **** up your piston rings when hydrolocking, leading to a short life (1 month max) of the motor...your car would still be able to crank over though...

This is almost as bad as the ppl that come in wondering what happen to their exhaust after jumping hills. Dude there's a reason monster trucks and stuff are up off of the ground.

I say you're a victim of your own stupidity. Fix it on your own.
