if youre tracking the car, rotors are a disposable item. unless you heet/cryo treat them they will not last long anyway. so get the cheap ones. if you use em up or they warp, bring em back for a replacement. this is for track use tho. its a good idea not to mix rotors with your street and track pads.
The ones we have gotten (Autozone, NAPA, etc ...) are anywhere from $20-30 per IIRC. Assuming they were the cheap ones, I looked them up and to my surprise they are the Duralast ones ($21.99). Kinda shocked that a (11.2" rotor??) would be THAT much more cost than ours (9.3"??). I believe the NAPA variant was either a dollar or two less - I think we have liked the NAPA's more but I'd have to see them to remember.
I run the Neotek Taiwan rotors from AutoZone. ~$24ea for the GSR fronts. I went and checked out the 3 or so different rotors they sell for the Integra and this one felt the heaviest to me. Ran that at RA and Barber w/ Cobalt VRs.
Run cheap rotor from a local brakes only shop here. $22 front (OEM dx civic), $24 rear (ex/gsr disc). Painted the hat and the outer ring with bar-b-que pit paint to prevent that rusted rotor look. Better than paying for a expensive powder coated jobs, and gave me something to do one weekend.
The plot thickens. I was actually shopping for my gf's BMW (95 318i). It's track related because if I can fix her car for cheap, she doesn't bitch so much when I spend so much time on my track car.
The DURALAST rotors for the ITR are $24.99, but the DURALAST rotors for the BMW are $74.99. What's weird is that I'm sure the ITR rotors are bigger then the BMW rotors.

For club racing they are as disposible as a roll of paper towels.
I would advise opening the boxes at the parts counter and verifying they are the right ones. At Portland this last weekend I opened my spares and found that I had one Itegra rotor and one Civic rotor packaged in the identical boxes with identical part numbers...Fuggin Auto Zone.

Been using Autozone rotors for quite a while...go through at least a set of fronts every season.
Honestly, I think both types are made by the same people, and the difference is the warranty.
I really don't think most of us would have the unmitigated gall to show up with chewed up race rotors and ask for a free replacement, anyway.

I've use everything from OEM, Brembo, Napa, Autozone and Discount. Now, regardless of what I use, I can just about use a set of rotors per weekend. At Sebring, I even carry a spare set.
The ValuCraft brand is CRAP. I've cracked them all the way through from less than 2 months of street use!
The original "cheap AutoZone rotors" are the Aimco brand, which are pretty good and still don't cost much. The ValuCraft brand came out later and uses very low quality metal. Spend the extra $5 and get Aimco; it's well worth it, IMO.

Thanks for all of the tips guys. I had a hell of a time getting rotors for the BMW at Autozone or Pep Boys ... they only wanted to sell me the $70-90 rotors, the cheaper ones weren't available in the stores or on the web sites (autozone & pepboys).
I called NAPA and they tried to sell me the expensive NAPA brand rotors for $50-$70, when I asked about the cheap $20 rotors he said he didn't have any in stock and I'd have to get them online. Not only that, but he said they should be turned before installation. He said they were made of cheaper metals and a lot of times warped on the shelf. Has anyone heard of this before, or was it complete BS?
I went ahead and ordered the cheap NAPA rotors online (Tru-Stop) for ~$23 each and had the UPS Ground'ed to my house. I don't understand how some stores stay in business.
Anyway, this just reminds me why I love tracking a Honda!

At best it was hyperbole. At worst it was deliberate obfuscation from a frustrated employee.

One of the guys we race with has told me he turns all the rotors he buys (like buys, turns, uses). Not sure of his exact reason however. We have had real good luck w/ inexpensive rotors (NAPA, Autozone, etc ..) out of the box - I doubt anything you are buying are "warped" but they could very well be manufactured more crappily - it would in part explain the price difference.

the reason they get turned is because rotors have been known to be warped right out of the box. we had some e250 rotors that we turned to min spec and still couldn't get warpage out. top line raybestos rotors. i use some cheapies from a wholesale place on charlotte; about $10 ea with shipping.

I had issues with the Valucraft rotors cracking all the way thru from just street use. I spend another $5 to get the original "Cheap AutoZone Rotors" (Aimco brand?) and they have always been great.
aimco is now the duralast brand and is a 2 year replacement...
valuecraft is a multi-metal rotor (according to my old manager at autozone), thats why it sucks so much...

Front rotors for the 03 Dodge truck, 13.25" diameter, $45 each at Napa. These things weigh a ton, so I think they're cheaper per pound than hotdogs. Last rotors for the Integra were $26 each at Autozone. I don't think I'll ever get rotors turned again at these kind of prices.
I used the regular advance, napa, or autozone rotors last year, and they would last longer than a set of front pads.
I picked up a set from a wholesale buisness only dealer for $11 ea and they feel like **** if I touch the brakes over 80 mph. I will try them out for a session this weekend, but I went by pePboYs to get some backups just incase they still feel bad.

other than bedding issues, why do you say this?..
jeff<--- who is guilty of swapping street/track pads without changing rotors
My track pads are usualy bedded within the first couple warm up laps

I work as a parts counter manager at AZ part time in addition to my full time job teaching HS. This is gonna sound dumb, but it is all supply and demand of the difference in pricing. You guys with the integras 94 + I think the valuecraft rear rotors are like $8.99 apeice..................something cheap like that.
I auto-x my hatch and just use the valuecraft rotors with ebc green pads. No problems with them.............
