someone on here (don't remember who) said that a person with an auto tranny could get more pickup by driving in D3. is it even good for your tranny to be driving around in D3? i am just curious...

if you will read more carefully, i was asking if it is GOOD for the tranny or not, and if you can get more pickup by driving with it in D3 or not.

All driving in D3 does is not let the car go into 4th (overdrive), so the first 3 gears will be exactly the same. If you shift your car into D3 and mash the gas from a stop, it will shift at exactly the same points as it would if in D4 if you mashed the gas.

However, once you get to 3rd you will hold there, which is good on hills or when you think you may need a low gear to accelerate faster from a roll. You will not be able to go as fast in 3rd as you would in 4th, just like in a manual transmission. So eventually you would want to use D4.
