Default Throwing a code...faulty gauge?

Well, hooking up my water temp gauge, and the second i tap into the red/white wire i get P0118, "Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit High Input." Which the name suggests to me that somehow my gauge is putting some kind of voltage into my computer. So, what do you guys think, a faulty gauge?

I read it several times before my previous post, and either it was edited or I just completely missed it ...
