Default 2001 GSR V.S. 97 Honda Prelude

I've been arguing w/ these ppl at my work about racing a gsr vs a prelude. They all swear that the prelude will beat the gsr. But i say no b/c i beat plenty of them. (both cars bone stock) Also Y would honda make a car faster then their high class model. That's like a chevy beating a pontiac. Plus prelude are heavy as ****. What are your guys thoughts on this?

It seems like this topic comes up every week. Try doing a search next time.

Anyway, the GSR will win a short race (shorter than the 1/4 mile). In 3rd though, the Prelude will start pulling. In a longer race (1/4 mile or longer) or on the highway, the Prelude will win.

Oh, btw, since you listed the year #'s for the cars, it looks he actually owns a Prelude. Just race him and have fun. It'll be very driver dependent (if he keeps up on the launch, he'll probably win.)

yup

Got a chance to race my friend's stock lude vs my I/E teg. I walked him any gear. I was able to reel him in from behind and really start walking in 3rd gear. He's stock mind you.

So we went back and installed his CAI. We were dead even gears 1 and 2. 3rd gear I'd get a tiny little gain, but by the middle of 4th he'd start to pull on me real good. Real good.

We always did rolling starts so that was even.

My money is on the GSR, but it all depends on the driver.

from the prelude forum...
search this topic in the integra forum...u'll get the opposite...

start modding and the gsr will win for sure...integras have a bigger aftermarket
and weighs soo much less...soo thats the advantage...stock for stock its
the driver

I've had both cars; 98 SH and a 99 GSR...so I can compare and contrast these two cars fairly well.

The Prelude, is a much nicer car to drive...more comfortable by far. Chassis is much more rigid and you dont hear the usual "creaking" noises like in an Integra. The cabin is more user friendly, everything is within reach.

Racing the car however, is a completely different story. The Integra has way more potential.

drop ur front tire pressure and take that fool..

all of them saying that ludes are faster jus means that they'll pay u more when u win the bet...

put money down
that's the second best way to make money for ur car besides manwhoring

GS-R gets my vote. 1/4 mile that is. Anything after that, I can see the Prelude creeping up and pulling little by little...

Equal drivers I would have to go with the Prelude.

Doesnt really matter what lude it is, they all have the same motor. Just FYI, when all i had was a CAI and exhaust, i would RAPE my friends 99 SH, not that i got the ITR tranny and some other stuff, as well as him having i/h/e and VAFC, i still rape him. IMO, the GSR takes better to mods, esp with some nice short gears, which is the biggesr shortfall of a stock GSR.

Bah..This topic is about as old as the Type R vs. Type S topic. Stock for stock I'd have to say its all driver.

I race my friends 01 lude all the time. He is a great driver. It depends on the launch.

If you really want to see the race, go to http://www.bakersfieldstreetracing.com and go to the video's section. Everything GSR vs. is me. There will be some vids of me losing and some of me winning against him.

Like I said. Its all driver. Good luck and be safe !

I would like to say i bet that fool. He has CAI and kept and it's a stupid auto-stick sh**. I didn't roll on with him b/c i knew of his advantage. I still beat him of the line i guess he doesn't know how to power torque it. Any his lude only has 195 whp while the newer ones 00-Up have 205 whp.

I beat 98+ preludes every single time even when my car was bone stock. IF any preludes think they could be a gsr, tell them put their money where their mouth is.

auto preludes are a joke, i dont know why they are so slow but they are a lot slower than the 5 speed, i say the gsr will win stock for stock as long as you keep the race under 105 or so

When I had a GSR, I beat plenty of Preludes (newest gen, I never got to race a 93+)
Is it just me or do the preludes rev up REALLY FAST? Cause when I drove my friend's 98 Prelude with I/H/E (which I beat about 5 times, even with giving him a head start), it seemed to rev up a lot faster in gear, and felt faster than the GSR. I think it's just the added torque of the 2.2L that makes it feel faster.

I'm sure I just didn't meet the right Prelude to get killed. Then again, I think my GSR was faster than average.

a lot of you guys that are so certain you can beat preludes are more than likely having most of your encounter's with the SS model...it is actually quite common and is more of a match for Civic Si's...which would explain you beating them.

Forget the plain old HP and TQ numbers.

Check the power-to-weight ratio and gear ratios. They're very close. The race will be based on the driver's skill.
