Default before i look into a h22 swap... simple question.

im very much considering a h22 swap.

before i do so i am worried about 3 things before dropping it into my del sol. i just would like someone/anyone to clear them up for me.

1. header clearance. i know the header sits very low, and i really want to avoid putting big dents into my prescious header, does anyone make a header that eliminates this problem? or perhaps mounts that let the engine sit higher to fix it?

2. cable shifter. i have only talked to one person with a h22 in their del sol, and i was told this: he dislikes the cable shifter. it shifts smoother, but he said it was harder to bang gears, and he didn't like it. can anyone confirm this? does anyone make a conversion kit so you can use a b seris tranny?

3. shifter placement in the car. does anyone know if the shifter sits in the stock location once you are done with the swap... i saw this pic and im a bit weary now, i really dont want it to look like a hack job:

look in the CRX/EF forum......there is someone in there with an adapter that allows you to use a B-series tranny with a H-series engine

if you want a header that will not hang lower than the opil pan contact Tinker219......he has a header that clears very very well

here is the website Love Fab N/A header it looks like a supercharger header but it uses larger primaries and a really really good flowing collector so it make up for it and flows very well.

Harder to bang gears? He must be a really weak person or something because I have had no problems with "banging gears". You'll get used to it, seriously if that keeps you from getting the swap, I worry for you.

As for the shift boot console problem. Why not raise the shift boot and glue the base under the console edge that is cut instead of leaving it at the base of the shifter assembly? Or even have a custom shiftboot with a wide base and maybe velcro it under the edge.

As for header clearance, the AN-r header has food clearance, mine touches the oil pan but it fits under there. Only time I have scraped it is when I underestimated speedbumps.

Adn the guy who makes the b-series tranny adapter is Allmotorcrx161.

An H22 swap is a good idea I think.

The header doesn't hang that low really. If your at stock hieght you should have no problems. If you are lowered just watch your angle and try to be careful and you should have no problems.

The shifter does sit higher because of the cabel setup for the tranny but the stock bot will cover the shifter.

As for slamming the gears I drove a Del Sol with an H22 in it and it was no problem with slamming the gears. It cherped all the way through 3rd.

Good luck to you if you get the swap and I hope it runs well

i realize it sits higher, but whats the deal with having to hack up the console. i DEFINATLY dont want to do that.

((1)) - not a clue if anyone makes one, but unless youre slammed to the ground (like 4" drop or so) you shouldnt have a problem.

((2)) - just remember its a totally different tranny than the B so it SHOULD feel weird to a Bseries driver. the tranny itself if built quite strong; i know of guys hitting well over 400hp to the wheels with a stock tranny. i havent gotten a chance to drive my hatch around yet, but when i pretend race and shift (which i often do in my garage) it feels just fine. theres something about the feel of it that i kinda like more than the Bseries. they DO sell an adapter plate to fit a Bseries tranny to mate onto the Hblock but i wouldnt reccommend it. its expensive and imo, its not worth it.

((3)) - you can move the shifter to wherever you want (within reason). i cut mine old one out and put the shifter where i thought it felt the best and welded it on. of coarse i checked placement too, but it all matches up fine. ive seen only 1 22Sol, but its shifter looked OEM. it basically all boils down to how much patience and time you have to line it up well. if you take your time and do it right, it will look awesome. ive got my h/b looking totally stock, shift boot and all. well, basically cuz im keeping this swap a secret from my friends for awhile (till i make some money off a few people anyways).

if youve got any other questions, lemme know cuz id be glad to help you out

thanks for that reply.

i definatly considering it. how is it for daily driving? is traction really *that* bad? my friend has a b16 with ctr cams/race ecu, etc... and its traction isn't any worse than my 300zx n/a was...

any issues with reliabilty? im going for a stock swap, just h/i/e and maybe an ecu.

After some testing we did, that only works on the EF chassis. If you plan to run that in the EG/EK chassis, you need to change the mounts on both the driver side and transmission side. We're actually working with HCP right now to make a tranny adapter plate and new motor mounts for to run a B-series tranny in the EG/EK chassis.

Also, the stock exhaust manifold does not hang lower than the oil pan. If you get an aftermarket header, then yes you run into to possibly having less ground clearance but it depends on which header you plan to run.

As for the shifter, you can place that anywhere. In the picture you have, the guy could have moved the shifter back further and just trimmed/grinded some of the shifter bracket assembly away in order to fit the plastic console covers over it so it looks stock. Not difficult, just need to use your brain.
