zc transmision
I have an 89 honda civic hatch back. I ordered a zc engine and transmission and it currently getting swaped into my car. the motor ands trans is in the car however the alxes will not work. I don't know which axles they are for sure because i didn't stop to think to ask. well now i'm and tottaly desperate because the shop thats is doing my shop said i needed the zc intermediate shaft. they told me the could find it or I could find it. so I gave them the task. the next day the guy calls me and tells me the only place he could get them throgh was placeraing.com and he couln't get in contact with them. now i'm on my own so I'm looking for any alernitive or any axle set up that i can use.
opps.. get 88-89 inner joints from acura integra.. and swap them to your hatchback axles....or you can swap the zc diff..and install 89-91 crx/civic si diff...hope i helped out....
OK so your telling me that the si alxes are the same length but the inner joints are not the same? I knew there had to be an answer some because I know i'm not the only who has done this swap. I found these zc parts on ebey. are the telling me with these zc peices and si axles joint together that will be all i need. if that is the case all my problems are solved? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...%3AIT
the si inner joints are smaller than 88-89 integra joints if you try putting si inner joints to zc tranny it will fit loose..but integra joints will fit it...have fun
Hey thanks a lot I'm going to buy new si axles for saftey hopefuly I can the the axles conversion myself, it should not be to hard. i post and let all you zc swappers know for sure.
You may have a little problem using an Teg inner joint on the driverside.
At least I did, when I tried t ouse a 90-93 teg inner joint - the joint is a bit to big, and is catching up on the block. Just a little. It looked like all you needed to do, is shave off a bit of aluminum from the block, really little. I would have dont it if I didnt have a choice, but I had the intermediate shaft anyways. So, if it does bind up a little - just take some metal off. You'll see.

ZC joints are the same as 90-93 teg joints.
Driverside joint was never meant to go directly int othe tranny (even though it does fit, and may work) - it is supposed to be inserted into the intermediate shaft.
That is probably why it has that little clearance issure I told you about.
88-89 joiunts are known to be smaller then 90-93, that's why it probably worked out for sohcfreak. Sohcfreak - you do speak from your own experience, right?

your right nikitad..
i had two experience about that..
1: i changed the zc tranny diff to a si diff so i can use si axles and i had axle problem about it..i think the axles were bad.. i dont know i didn't check..
2: i put back the zc diff in the zc tranny and found out about zc swaps, you can use 88-89 inner joints.. i did that..and worked find..no problems.. but waste of time about swap diffs over..cause i didnt bother check axles of si....boots were good but just to lazy to check...
thats the story...

nikitad is right.
The correct way is to use 90-93 integra axles and a ZC half-shaft. If you do this you need to use the Si (or DX?) knuckle & hub assembly's as well, because the 90-93 integra axle-end splines are too big for civic STD knuckle/hub assembly's.
also, you need to do this easy mod when using 90-93 integra axles:

I've never tried using the 86-89 integra joint + civic axle hybrid before, but
if it works out for ya and/or if that EBAY ZC axle kit works for ya...
and of course an alternate to all of this axle BS is to swap out the ZC diff and reuse your existing Civic diff in the ZC tranny, as already mentioned; but this may be a bigger PITA than doing the suggested axle work, if you've never taken a tranny apart/swapped diffs. before.
good luck with whatever you do...
